Senior Estimator – Infrastructure Consultancy

Job Summary

Capita has a new vacancy for a Senior Estimator to join us as in London within our infrastructure team. You will be joining us as either a Senior Estimator or Associate Director but this is dependent on your level of experience.

We consult on some of the UK’s largest national projects that require best in class estimating and cost management so we are searching for an established professional to strengthen our team further. There is a lot of work to be done and we know the right fit is out there to be found.

About the Job

Your role will consist of producing accurate and comprehensive estimates for large and complex projects or programmes in a timely and efficient manner. You will be expected to do this with limited management supervision once you have bedded into our way of working.

You will be in charge of controlling and managing the estimating process at project level. To clarify you will produce all your estimates in accordance with relevant procedures and work instructions and other company procedures, systems (eg Cost Os and RIB Construction Suite) and processes.

To get a little more technical you will use your experience and knowledge to Support the commercial team with unit cost modelling, costs analysis feedback for final account and/or significant contract scope proposed change analysis and preparation of project close out analysis you will also support the procurement team with tender and/or contract price analysis and reference to baseline and revised estimates. As part of your day to day you will also be proficient in the use of unit cost modelling tools and you provide improvement initiatives.

About your Team

We are a specialist team set up to take on Infrastructure projects with a best in class attitude by using PMO principles and Capita designed solutions.

The Infrastructure team has a strong reputation as specialist consultants in the disciplines of Commercial and Project Management. The team has a record of delivering innovative solutions for cutting edge projects within the UK and to an extent internationally.

The Ideal candidate

You will be an established Senior Estimator/Commercial Manager with experience of quantity surveying and cost management. You will have a high level of formal qualification and RICS affiliation. On top of this you will be experienced with infrastructure, rail and construction. Your experience will be within a consultancy or Rail Provider and you will have significant experience of working within a generalist commercial environment.

Previous experience with Network rail or organisations of a similar ilk will be a substantial benefit as this will prepare you for the culture of our clients and the industry that we work within. This role does require a substantial amount of academic and professional qualifications but a clear interest and a strong cover letter will always attract our attention. We recognise that motivation and process are a key factors of success so if you can demonstrate relevant knowledge and a real interest in joining us than we will be more than happy to talk, interview and hire.

Requirements – (Must have)

  • Qualified to a high standard in Estimating or Quantity Surveying
  • Wide and varied experience of large and complex construction projects
  • Understanding of project management, planning, risk and investment processes
  • Senior Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or educated to degree level
  • Experience with one of the major rail providers
