Missions & Main activities

The role relates to the execution of the Birmingham tramway network extension contract. The aim of this once-renewable five-year contract is to construct 4 km of new line in the coming three years (three extensions) and an additional 15 km in the following five years (two additional lines).

The role of Egis Rail is included in a partnership agreement called "The Midland Metro Alliance" which brings together the Prime Contractor, the Construction Consortium and the Engineering Office.

This exciting role is for a Senior Landscape Architect who will be expected to support the urban realm design manager with strong urban design and CAD skills to ensure the successful urban integration and high quality urban realm design for each of the tramway extensions. This will necessitate working directly with the Engineering Manager and extension design leads managing both the urban realm design team resources, budgets, design quality and workload programme.

The role includes participating as an urban realm designer for one or several of the tramline extensions on all job stages from inception to completion. The successful candidate will be expected to participate with the urban realm team bringing strong urban design and CAD skills to ensure the successful urban integration and high quality urban realm design for each of the tramway extensions.
This will necessitate taking an active role within the design teams under the responsibility of the Urban Realm Design Manager, supporting both the urban realm team as well as the engineering teams for each tramline extension.

The senior landscape architect should have a minimum of 6 years’ experience and the landscape architect a minimum of 3 years’ experience with urban realm design. Experience with infrastructure projects

(Tramway and Rapid Bus) would be appreciated.

Candidates should be proficient in English both for writing and presentations, as well as a good working knowledge of Autocad (3D or REVIT if possible), Office, Photoshop and SketchUp.

Main duties of the post:

• Assisting with urban realm design work from concept design to construction detailing including urban integration and urban realm hard and soft landscaping for the tramline’s extension.
• Integration and collaboration within the multidisciplinary Alliance Team including participation with all relevant in-house training programmes.
• Weekly site visits and site analysis reports as required for the relevant extension construction programme.
• Representing the urban realm discipline at internal multidisciplinary design progress team meetings and presentations to local authorities and client.
• Site supervision of hard and soft landscape works as required by the construction teams.
• Supervising the preparation of drawings and other graphic documents including reports and 3D visuals.
• Close coordination with the Engineering Design manager for each tramway extension.
• Ensuring an efficient use of all CAD software and the development of 3D work based on REVIT software including its use within the MMA’s BIM strategy.
• Other transversal MMA duties to be performed as assigned.

You will have/be:

• Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture and Chartered to the Landscape Institute or international equivalent.
• Previous experience in urban realm design including if possible experience with the integration of urban infrastructure projects e.g. tramway, dedicated bus lanes etc.
• Experience in leading and managing large scale urban realm project teams.
• Good working knowledge of written and oral English.
• Good interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplined team.
• Good presentation and coordination skills in order to represent the urban realm design team at both internal and local authority meetings.
• UK experience with urban realm design appreciated.
• Familiar with UK design standards and planning regulations.
