Senior Network Infrastructure Testing Engineer

Reporting to the Networks Test and Commissioning Manager, the Senior Network Infrastructure Testing Engineer undertakes test the factory Verification and Validation testing of network and server configurations in the Operational Technology/Railway domain. They will also support the Networks Test and Commissioning Manager in the safe and efficient operation of Networks test lab facilities.

What are my Responsibilities?
Production and implementation of test and commissioning documentation deliverables to meet, review and update documents to ensure continue improvement through the testing process.
Planning effective use of test assets to deliver the best fit programme of testing
Complete testing of network and server configurations in a test lab environment, validating configuration file match the design requirements, both working alone in working with individuals in flexible small teams.
Supporting the integration of the network and server configurations with long distance telecoms provider and the using application system (e.g. A Railway Signalling system).
Planning and delivering of offsite testing activities to the agreed time, cost, quality and performance requirements.
Supporting the safe operation of the test lab through safety inspection and audit
Regularly reporting task progress and status.
Ensure that persons working under their supervision are briefed on their duties and competent to carry out tasks assigned to them and that they accept personal responsibility for work done under the authority delegated to them.
Ensure the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and work instructions are applied throughout the test and commissioning engineering life cycle.
Ensure Fixed Telecoms test and commissioning tasks are delivered in accordance with our clients Safety and Quality procedures and meet all applicable legislative, safety and customer requirements.
Ensure Fixed Telecoms test and commissioning tasks are delivered and undertaken in accordance with customer Health and Safety procedures and requirements including main line rail, light rail and mass transit environments.
Maintaining and develop good relationships with internal and external customers, industry associations, suppliers and Partners.

What experience do I need to apply for this role?
HNC/HND or equivalent in relevant subject
Having a network qualification such as CCNA or equivalent is a big advantage
Experience of designing, testing, and implementing hardware engineering. Integration of systems and applications in the Operational Technology / Industrial Control Context.
Strong competence in layer 2 fundamentals, such as STP, port types, switch configuration standards and layer 2 security
Excellent working knowledge of VMware
Knowledge of Intrusion detection systems & Intrusion prevention systems
Experience of network monitoring and configuration
Experience with Security Audits/Cyber Essentials
Experience and knowledge of implementation project engineering processes covering testing and commissioning.
Knowledge of Safety Critical and Safety Related activities in the rail environment.
Proven experience of delivery of Operational Telecommunications systems, test and commissioning activities in the rail environment.

System and detailed knowledge of a substantial proportion of the following:
Knowledge of BS7671 18th Edition wiring regulations desirable.
Good knowledge of IT systems and software, especially Microsoft Office and Project.
Good interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
Good organisational, time management and problem solving skills
