GB Railfreight currently have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Commercial leader to fulfil a Head of Market Development vacancy.

GBRf have experienced unprecedented growth of 27% in the past 12 months. With our projected growth set to rise, the Head of Market Development role is integral to the success of the business.

Reporting to the Commercial Director, the Head of Market Development will be responsible for leading a team to ensure the successful development of new business growth into GBRf. The role holder will be responsible for driving the development of new markets into the company and leading on all tenders, working collaboratively with our internal General Managers. Your team will be responsible for overseeing the smooth implementation of new commercial projects from start to finish.

Responsibilities

  • Lead GBRf tender submissions and create specialist bid teams on larger opportunities, maximising capabilities and learning across the team.
  • You will lead and manage a team to drive market development and innovative rail freight solutions across the UK.
  • Maintain strong relationships with perspective, new and existing customers and internal stakeholders.
  • You will convert the sales pipeline into GBRf contracts and develop strategic resource plans to meet customer requirements. Reviewing and coordinate contract renewal strategies.
  • Create and maintain effective targeting and pipeline management processes.
  • As head of Market Development, you’ll be responsible for developing plans to increase strategic land portfolio.
  • Negotiate contracts, ensuring they are fit for purpose to suit the needs of the business and ensure issues are resolved in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Bring market insights relating to sectors, services, operations etc back to the business drawn from your own experience and that of your team.
  • Engage in a wide range to networking events to build relationships within the railway industry.
  • Produce forecasts and sales analysis and report regularly to the Executive team.

Qualifications

It is vital you possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and motivate at all levels. In addition you will be a skilled negotiator, enjoy working in collaboration with others yet have the diplomacy to be able to challenge situations and mind-sets in a constructive manner. A high degree of initiative and creativity would be beneficial coupled with a desire to exceed customer expectations and a commitment to excellence.

Candidates should ideally have the following:

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified – able to deal with multiple issues, assuming a detailed or conceptual / strategic perspective as required.
  • Personal Track Safety (PTS) Certificate (although this can be obtained upon joining the business).
  • CIM qualification.

Experience

  • Superior team leadership and coaching skills and ability to develop high performing teams.
  • Experience in producing high quality customer proposals and commercial deals covering multiple services over longer term contracts periods.
  • Solid commercial experience gained within the rail industry .
  • Excellent track record of building key accounts.
  • Ability to forge strong relationships with internal/external stakeholders and customers.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the railway operations
  • Commercial acumen
  • Advanced IT skills

Other Requirements

  • High attention to detail.
  • Possess impact and presence, able to converse with people at all levels.
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication and commercial skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Flexible and willing to travel across the UK and occasional oversee’s as required by the business.
  • Demonstrate appropriate levels of competence and behaviours against GBRf’s core values.
