Discipline Engineer - Mechanical in London, London, United Kingdom
We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Discipline Engineer to provide Ventilation and Cooling solutions (feasibility and detailed design) for a range of electrical substations, as well as providing oversight of installation, commissioning and handover of substation ventilation designs. The Mechanical Discipline Engineer will be part of a multi-disciplinary team helping to resolve engineering problems, providing professional engineering input and the associated technical input for a specific cooling solution.
The duties of the Mechanical Discipline Engineer will be as follows:
- Providing ventilation and cooling solutions for electrical substations.
- Do concept designs to Concept Design level, including calculations, outline specifications and sketch drawings.
- Do detailed designs (equivalent to RIBA Stage 4 Technical Design), including calculations, specifications and marking up drawings.
- Discuss technical issues with the Senior Mechanical Engineer where appropriate and make the Senior Mechanical Engineer aware of and agree with the principal technical issues.
- Integrate any new legislation, technological developments or industry practice into the CTP design requirements.
- Liaise with other discipline and project engineers as necessary to ensure design co-ordination.
- Assist with the review of supplier documents, tenders, programmes, progress reports and methods of work.
- Support project managers during construction, including: Quality of Works; Supplier audits; Review of Inspection, Test and Bringing Into Use Plans; Undertake or supervise tests; Notification of Outcome of Tests (on and off site); Inspection and Checking of Plant, Materials, Equipment & Prefabricated Works off site; Notification of defects and issue of defects certificates.
The Skills, Experience & Qualifications expected of the Mechanical Discipline Engineer will be as follows:
Essential:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Professional membership of relevant engineering body (e.g. IMechE or CIBSE).
- Ability to analyse, calculate heat loads and ventilation rates; design systems and size plant as required.
- Ability to use initiative and good judgement in undertaking role and to respond to emerging situations deciding and agreeing appropriate actions with project management. Ability to identify issues requiring escalation.
Desirable:
- Experience of railway engineering, particularly the LU environment
- Experience of acoustic calculations and analysis.
- Experience with Hevacomp.
- Experience of quality and assurance engineering management
- Awareness of health & safety issues in an operating railway environment
- Awareness of contractual arrangements that apply.
This role is in the public sector and as such the contract will be set up on a PAYE o umbrella company basis. No limited companies of PSC's are permitted.
