The Opportunity

Location (s): The position is based specifically from the Gateshead site.
Role and Responsibilities:
- To provide full mechanically engineered design solutions for mechanical parts associated with all allocated projects, utilising the companies’ preferred CAD system-Creo/Windchill and produce drawings to all applicable internal and external standards and the proficient use of the company MRP system to create accurate BOM’s
- Liaise with the Engineering Implementation Manager in the development of mechanical design concepts for all projects providing information to Suppliers to aid in speeding up the process of NPI. ie 3D modelling. And then providing all manufacturing drawings to all applicable internal and external standards in a controlled manner to operations.
- Understand the basic constraints for EMC, Power Flow, Vibration, Shock, Thermal Performance, Maintenance and Access requirements so to assist in the development of mechanical assembly concepts for each project.
- Monitor the progress of all undertaken mechanical design by holding regular design reviews with the aim to speed up product introduction and reduce the cost of change-RFC’s.
- Ensure mechanical design solutions are viable and cost effective, utilising all available manufacturing methods as applicable. Consider at every opportunity cost reductions and design improvements.
- Production of accurate applicable manufacturing drawings for all applicable parts (including change control) to allow operations to complete the assembly of the product. This will include but not be limited to component, sub assembly and general arrangement drawings including complete parts lists where applicable, and all specific manufacturing data.

Essentials
- HNC / ONC Mechanical Engineering
- Experience of mechanical design of complete machinery, fabrications and assemblies in an engineering focused company
- An understanding of electrical component placing and the appreciation of health and safety and cable/busbar routing taking into consideration the build/access processes for manufacturing product.
- The generation of accurate 3D CAD data with the ability to transfer this into 2D drawing packs and in a standard format.
- Adaptable and good communicator
- Can work with minimum supervision to agreed timescales, innovative approach to mechanical design, demonstrate good mechanical engineering knowledge
- Attention to detail and ability to complete fully assigned tasks.
- The implementation of cost savings and improvements within the design of products.
- The ability to work with Suppliers and Customers to understand requirements and ensuring communications are objective and transferred onto controlled documentation.
- Competent user of word, excel and PowerPoint
Desirable
- HND / Degree Mechanical Engineering
- Experience of Rail, Rotating Machinery, Energy and/or Industrial Power Products.
- Thermal and Electro Magnetic component knowledge.
