Mechanical Fitters are required to work on a long term contract with a major rail company based at their new Rail Technology Centre in Widnes. This is an excellent opportunity to gain rail experience, whilst adding to your skills
Purpose of the Role
The facility has been opened in line with the repaint project as part of a refurbishment of over 50 trains. The role of a Mechanical Fitter is to work alongside a team of painters to deliver a full external re-spray of the train. Stripping the train down of component parts and prepping them ready for painting. This role involves mechanical engineering and paint preparation work.
Hours
Average of 45 hours per week. The hours will be working a mixture of day and night shifts and includes working weekends. Shift times are <phone number removed> Days and <phone number removed> Nights
Rate
£14.29 per hour for all hours worked, paid as a limited company contractor.
Location
Based in Widnes, this brand new train care facility opened in 2017. Excellent road links to the motorway system and local areas
Start Dates
For successful candidates, start dates can be immediate following an interview; more long term start dates can be arranged
Duties
* Operate as a member of a work team, as the role of that work team requires
* Undertake shunting activities to assist in movement of rail vehicles (as part of a rail movement's team).
* Submit problem sheets (including evaluation sheets) with issues that are encountered on work being undertaken
* Carry out component exchange in line with safety critical competency management system
* Be capable of accepting training in other skills and carry out duties e.g. forklift and operational duties which could include movement of rail vehicles.
* Provide on the job training to less experienced colleagues as requested
* Carry out final work and process inspections as required
* Use IT systems that are work related
Qualifications Required
Time served apprenticeship or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering with associated technical qualifications (City & Guilds, SVQ, NVQ Level 2) or recognised equivalent.
Experience Required
* Background in mechanical engineering
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills
* Good interpersonal skills
* Able to work on own initiative where required
* Good judgement and decision-making capability
