Package Manager - Mechanical
Purpose of the Job
The Package Manager - Mechanical will ably support the Delivery Manager and the Senior MEP Manager in all SC2/3 related engineering matters, ensuring that integrated solution and programme(s) are delivered, which meets the requirement(s) of the scope. This includes ensuring that stakeholders are appropriately assured of the direction and quality of engineering outputs. This will be accomplished through the day-to-day liaison with the dedicated Tier 1 Contractor and compliance with the design/specification.
Specific system knowledge should include.
- Stair Pressurisation Systems
- Air Release System
- Hot and Cold-Water Services
- HVAC Systems
The role will require focus on (but not be limited to) overseeing the technical aspects of engineering, construction, testing and commissioning and handover activities and will require full engagement with the Tier 1 contractor on the installation, geographic location and/or for system requirements whilst being supported by Senior MEP Manager.
Principal Accountabilities
- Provide safe, reliable and fit for purpose engineering solutions to meet the programme scope, time and budget requirements for SC2/3 using appropriate standards/norms acting as the controlling mind for the solution.
- Use technical and commercial knowledge and experience to identify and resolve complex engineering issues that present risk to the successful delivery of the SC2/3 Programme. This will require in depth negotiation through to successful solutions. Whilst working closely with the Senior MEP Manager, DM and the commercial team.
- Identify, manage and mitigate engineering related risks to the SC2/3 Programme with a focus on the safety, reliability (dependability), quality, function and performance of operational assets and systems.
- Be the initial point of contact for any technical ‘change’ requests to the Design & Delivery Managers on matters relating to design, scope of works and or specification.
- Achieve desired levels of quality through quantity tracking and analysis of design submission categorisation, encouraging ‘Right First Time’ approach.
- Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to Target Zero principles.
- Co-operate with in all matters relating to health and safety, including following safe working procedures at all times

Main challenges of the job
- Ensuring scope of the SC2/3 programme / works is appropriate and that the technical requirements are deliverable and commissioned in accordance with the plan by using technical expertise.
- Act as a ‘controlling’ mind for the technical requirements/ delivery of the SC2/3 programme / works and ensure that an integrated solution that meets requirements is delivered.
- Successful delivery of the SC2/3 scope of works against Programme.
Person Specification
Minimum of HND qualified
Extensive experience of providing professional Engineering services (Mechanical delivery) to significant value programmes for large, high risk/complexity, safety focused and regulated organisation(s), where there are multiple complex interfaces requiring successful delivery to time, budget and the requisite quality and specification.
Experience in thinking strategically and identifying systems and processes required to meet immediate and longer term aims.
Experience and understanding of ‘commissioning a railway’ and handing assets into operational use (i.e., Bringing into Use).
