TRS are qualified to manage client project from start to finish, supplying all the Plant, labour and support services needed to achieve a successful outcome for rail projects (no matter how big or how small) be it time, specification, budget.
Due to continued expansion, Total Rail Solutions are looking to appoint an experienced Appointed Person to strengthen the operational lift planning activities of the Company.
The role and responsibilities
As the Appointed Person you will be responsible for overseeing all lift planning operations in compliance with Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulation (1998). You will ensure that all the relevant documentation is in place and completed in a timely and accurate fashion to ensure smooth operations of both the lift planning function and to ultimately contribute to the successful delivery of projects. Paperwork will include, but not be limited to, permits to lift, life plans, inspections, daily check sheets and lifting accessories.
As a minimum you will hold a Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) blue card endorsed with Appointed Person / Appointed Persons qualification or certificate. To support your CPCS blue card you will also provide evidence of having gained relevant vocational qualifications at SVQ or NVQ level as underpinning knowledge.
You will act as technical lead in providing expert advice and guidance associated to the lifting operations side of the business to TRS management, immediate operational colleagues, maintenance personnel and clients / suppliers.
You will have overall responsibility for ensuring that pre-site visits are conducted prior to project delivery and that they are undertaken in a thorough and professional manner at all times. You will provide TRS management and colleagues with a full assessment analysis prior to each job and have final say on the correct lifting methods to be used and will highlight areas that may pose potential issues in good time in order to overcome operational issues.
The role, being pivotal within the Company, will require you working closely with immediate operational colleagues on a day to day basis as well as providing detailed advice and offering support and guidance to the team who undertake all lift planning activities. You will ensure on a weekly basis that all relevant lift plans are accurate and ready in good time prior to project start up. You will seize every opportunity to promote high standards and actively encourage best practice within both the planning function and in a wider business context. You will also maintain exemplary levels of health and safety and adhere to relevant Company policies and procedures at all times.
Skills, Qualification and Experience
• As a minimum, hold CPCS Blue Card with Appointed Person with a relevant supporting vocational qualification at either SVQ/NVQ.
• Have received formal training or gained a sound working knowledge of LOLER Regulations and application.
• Ideally, attended formal training and have a full appreciation of BS7121 (Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Cranes).
• A thorough knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations coupled with a relevant qualification at CITB level or above.
• Demonstrable experience of work site planning and previous site check experience
• Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills in order that colleagues and subordinates adhere to your instructions
• Adopt a flexible approach to your workload to meet tight deadlines. You will also make yourself available over the phone during out of hours to ensure any technical issues can be resolved
• It would be extremely advantageous, but not essential, if you have had previous experience of Road Rail Vehicle / Crane operation or some technical knowledge of their functionalities and capabilities. Full training will be provided where the acquisition of this knowledge necessitates.
• Ideally, although not paramount as full training will be provided, have previous experience of rail On Track Plant (OTP) lift planning experience or attended an accredited training course.
