Associate Director - Bridges in Birmingham, Midlands, United Kingdom
We are currently recruiting for an Associate Director - Bridge Engineering to join our centrally located Birmingham office, which has an established track record of successfully delivering major transport schemes.
Our Birmingham office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridge engineering schemes for more than 30 years mainly in the Midlands and South East but also throughout the UK. Our office, located at the heart of Birmingham City Centre, has multi-disciplinary transportation assessment and design capability in rail and highway schemes and works closely with other disciplines from the Geotechnical, Environment, Transport Planning and Development Sectors.
A selection of our current and recent projects includes:
- HS2 Phase 2B – AECOM are currently developing sections L1 and L2 for Leeds leg south and East Midlands. We provide the expert engineering and environmental support needed to take forward the development of the route from the West Midlands to Yorkshire to support in the development of a hybrid Bill.
- SWTRA (South Wales Trunk Road Agent) – AECOM appointed as consultants for SWTRA provide engineering technical solutions to many aspects of the motorways, trunk roads and associated assets throughout the South Wales region.
- Forder Valley – We are current designing a four span semi-integral prestressed concrete structure on behalf of Plymouth City Council over the Bircham Valley to connect Brest Road with the new large signalised junction of Forder Valley Road and Novorossiysk Road.
- Celtic Manor – We are currently working with Celtic Manor Resort to develop a solution for a second bridge over the M4 to provide additional traffic capacity in and out of the developing site. The bridge is proposed as a single 49.9m span integral composite structure.
- Birmingham Airport – working with BIA to provide technical support ranging from inspection through to design of refurbishment works to car parks, buildings and other structures.
- Heathrow – working closely with HAL to provide inspection and investigation services to large portfolio of existing bridges and structures.
As an Associate Director – Bridge Engineering, you will have the following daily responsibilities:
- Undertake and project-manage bridge engineering schemes from feasibility through to detailed design.
- Responsible for production through to client sign off of Technical Approval documentation.
- Analysis and detailed design of road/rail bridges and other structures.
- Inspection, assessment and strengthening of road/rail bridges and other structures.
- Client liaison and the production of tenders, including quality documentation and costings.
- Project Management including program and resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.
- Mentoring graduate engineers in their progress to Chartership.
Minimum Requirements
- Proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.
- Significant experience of leading project teams, including major project multidisciplinary teams, developing a range of bridge and other associated structures scheme solutions from initial concept through to detailed design for implementation.
- Overseas project experience would also be an advantage.
- The role will suit a self-motivated individual looking to lead teams and to advance their career both technically and in project management in a dynamic structures team of around 45 engineers and technicians.
- Experience with bridge and related structural inspection assessment and design schemes.
- Proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.
- Significant experience in road and rail bridge projects.
- High level technical skills in current inspection, assessment and design.
- Previous exposure with clients of both national and local authorities, together with major contractors.
- Ability to manage staff and project Health and Safety responsibilities including compliance with CDM legislation
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Bridge, Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Ideally educated to MSc level or equivalent.
- A Chartered Engineer with ICE or IstructE.
