Job Summary
AECOM are seeking an experienced Design Manager.
Outcomes:
-
Support the Alliance in the delivery of multidisciplinary projects compliant with Network Rail Standards and Business Process Documentation to budget and defined timescales.
-
Lead the creation and manage the delivery of the survey and design programmes for GRIP 1-8; ensuring sufficient competent resource is identified and sourced to achieve the programme deliverables.

Act as the primary point of contact for all reporting of survey and design programme progress and deliverables to the wider Alliance team.
Responsibilities:
-
Line management of relevant designers and surveyors
-
Lead allocation of survey and design resources to meet the programme
-
Create and manage survey strategy for the Alliance
-
Create and manage the survey and design programmes
-
Report progress to plan as required
-
Escalate concerns and adjust resources to react to programme changes
-
Monitor design deliverables for each project
-
Hold regular programme progress meetings with delivery team
-
Hold regular programme progress reviews with Contractors Engineering Managers and Designated Project Engineers - reviewing programme and resources across all of design and engineering covering GRIP 1-8

Produce monthly MBR report for design and engineering

Input key design programme milestones & deliverables into P6 GRIP4Track templates with Planner and mange progress updates periodically with Planner

Manage designer competencies and licences with support of Contractors Engineering Managers

Support the Contractors Engineering Manager with management of a technical query process

Attend cascade briefing of technical standards and changes to technical standards

Lead the management of document transmittal and document control of design deliverables to the wider Alliance team.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Requirements:
-
Should have demonstrable experience of managing major rail projects
-
Should have demonstrable experience of delivering successful multi-million £, multi-disciplinary rail projects
-
Should have experience of working within an Alliance structure.
-
Should be a self-starter with excellent stakeholder management and communications skills.
Desirable Requirements:
-
Should have experience working in project and delivery environment.
-
Should have demonstrable experience of managing large teams and suppliers.
-
Should have experience in managing transnational teams and overseas design centres.
-
Should have working understanding of NR engineering and delivery processes.
-
Should have sound experience on change, risk and cost control management on major project environments.
-
Should be aware of safety procedures on NR projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Should have an educational qualification in engineering discipline.
