Samuel Knight International are pleased to be recruiting for a Carbon Cost Estimator to join our national design consultancy to work on a range of civil engineering, utilities and infrastructure projects.

Roles and responsibilities include:
Producing estimates and client set target costs for projects from pre-SOC to FBC by utilising:
- Environment Agency proprietary tools such as the Project Cost Tool (PCT)
- Industry standard systems, tools and data
- Estimators within the Estimating Team.
- Producing estimates of project carbon at appraisal stage using the Environment Agency’s ‘Eric’ Carbon Planning Tool
- Reviewing, interrogating and assuring suppliers’ cost estimates and models.
- Working collaboratively with suppliers to ensure the estimates are high-quality, and logically identifying and challenging deficiencies.
- Providing ad-hoc advice and support to project teams on how to reduce cost and carbon on their projects, and participating in other work to identify, develop and enact cost and carbon efficiency improvements.
- Acting as Risk Facilitator to compile risk registers and valuing risks using Monte-Carlo analysis and other approaches.
- Collecting and compiling actual cost data into the correct format and uploading it to the PCT database.
- Acting as the local expert in cost and carbon forecasting; maintaining an awareness of local project progress and upcoming workload, and reporting on estimates and work completed.
Participating in:
- Cost estimating system administration
- Ad-hoc Strategic Cost Intelligence reports
- Development and improvement of the Cost & Carbon Service
- Where necessary, for example due to workload or the need for specialist support, project managing small commissions or individuals (possibly involving other CSF resource)
Competitive salary of £35,000 to £55,000 depending on qualifications and experience of the candidate.
The skills and requirements of our client are listed below. These are not exhaustive and experiences not listed will also be considered:
- Excellent Excel, finance and commercial skills.
- Familiarity with carbon accounting and forecasting in the construction industry would be particularly advantageous.
- Familiarity with flood defence, water and other civil engineering projects.
- Good project management and personal time management skills.
- General familiarity with standard forms of construction contracts (NEC3/4) and the infrastructure & construction industry.
- Combination of professionalism in dealing with stakeholders and assertiveness in representing the client’s interest in Value for Money.
- Experience of working in a collaborative, non-competitive commercial environment would be highly advantageous.
