Job Description
ROLE PURPOSE
To operate in a CATIA V5 Design team carrying out challenging programmes of work on rail vehicle new products. The role offers opportunities for developing skills, knowledge and experience in this exciting industry. Previous experience in the rail business is desirable.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Deliver design work packages for components and assemblies related to vehicle interiors and electrical installations for the cab & passenger compartment of rail vehicles
• Estimate the design effort for delivery of a work package while meeting the detailed requirements associated with the progression of tasks through review gates
• Identify technical risks in projects and communicate to the team for further action
• Ensure that all project stakeholders have the right information at the right time, through pro-active communication.
Key Responsibilities
• Construct solutions in CATIA V5 and perform tolerance stack up calculations
• Assess the effect of non-conformance on mating components
• Propose the need for specialist assessments where required
• Present the proposed design solution to the design review board
• Prepare technical documentation to capture the solution
• Contribute to development of best practices and productivity improvements
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS (ESSENTIAL TO CARRY OUT THIS ROLE)
Experience Applicants should have a proven background in Rolling Stock with experience in the design of mechanical structures and systems, at component, sub-system, system and installation levels.
Ability to:
• Validate assemblies and installations on designs of loco cabs and train interiors
• Design the geometrical architecture of equipment and to optimize installation issues
• Define component and assemblies of sub-systems as per manufacturing & assembly concepts
• Conduct tolerance analysis and assess stack-ups
• Analyse and propose retrofit solution for existing design modifications
• Generate design requirements documents.
• Develop technical solutions, compliant with requirements
• Organize Design / Verification reviews with internal team and customer SPCs
• Conduct self and team's internal quality checks and ensure accuracy and consistency across all deliveries
• Mentor & train team members on rail design domain to upgrade on competency level Knowledge
• CATIA V5 design experience
• Capable of selecting appropriate fasteners for various assemblies
•Good drawing interpretation skills and dimensioning standard
• Understanding of material properties, heat treatment and surface coating
• Understanding of welded joint design and calculation
• An appreciation of manufacturing methods and processes
• Understanding of Rail industry standards for various regions.
