Job Description
This role is a Consultant working on the National Freight ETCS project interacting with Network Rail, the ETCS Equipment Supplier, and all Freight Operators.
The role is spread across Operations and Engineering disciplines with a focus on Safety, PIU and Engineering Change.
Over time there may be other projects to which the candidate is suited and allocated to furthering the Company’s aims of maintaining a diverse client portfolio.
The main tasks will be:
• Technical Secretary to the Operations Group:
o Take Minutes of Meetings
o Assist the Chair in guiding the meeting
o Create technical papers and problem statements to assist the group
o Assist with Putting into Use documentation
• Support the Operations and Engineering Groups in the review of:
o Design drawings
o Safety and Assurance outputs
• Creating Documentation to Assist the Engineering Group
o Technical Queries to Suppliers
o Responses to Technical notes and Queries from Suppliers
o Assurance Documentation for information submitted to NR Suppliers
o Assist with Engineering Change process documentation
• Act as Chair of Meetings to cover Leave of MBRC staff in Operations and Engineering Groups
Note: MBRC staff are already present in the Operations group (Assurance & PIU process lead) and the Engineering Group (Chair & Engineering Assistant)
Location
The base location will be Edinburgh, however there is a significant amount of travel to London and the Midlands (roughly 50% of days worked). Therefore, the candidate must be willing to travel within the UK including overnight stays during the week where required.
Requirements
The successful candidate must have experience with the Rail Industry and:
• Experience in Writing Safety & Technical Documentation
• Experience in Reading technical drawings
• Knowledge of Hazard Identification (HazIds)
• Knowledge of Risk Assessment
• Knowledge of Common Safety Method Regulations (CSM)
• Knowledge of Technical Standards for Interoperability as relates to locomotives (TSIs)
• Knowledge of Process for Approval for Placing into Service (APIS)
• Knowledge of Railway Undertaking processes for Placing into Use (PIU)
• Knowledge of Railway Undertaking processes for Engineering Change
• Awareness of Railway Locomotive Maintenance
• Awareness of Railway Operations

Desirable
In addition, it would be of benefit if the candidate has prior experience of:
• ETCS on board equipment
• Freight Operators
• Network Rail Projects
Education & Experience
Either:
• Degree 2:1 or above in a STEM field, preferably Engineering.
• 7 Years’ Rail Industry experience in a relevant role
Or:
• 10 Years’ Rail Industry experience in a relevant role
Annual Leave
• 35 days annual leave including 2 weeks shutdown for Christmas
