Geomorphologist in Redhill, Surrey, United Kingdom
To provide geomorphological and Water Framework Directive technical inputs to projects across the UK including river restoration and catchment management projects. Much of the work will be in the context of wider EIA and planning/permitting systems for a range of infrastructure projects (e.g. river and coastal flood alleviation schemes, renewables, water utilities and power projects)
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Key duties and responsibilities:
1. Undertaking geomorphology surveys, including walkovers, fluvial audits and site-specifc surveys
2. Production of Water Framework Directive Compliance Assessments to support environmental assessments
3. Providing input to designs for river restoration and Natural Flood Risk Management projects
4. Providing input to bids and proposals
5. Liaising with project teams, clients, stakeholders and the public as required;
6. Identify and undertake opportunities to present and raise awareness of geomorphology and river restoration work through networks and conferences
Key relationships and personnel for whom this person will be responsible:
The successful candidate will join my client's national Environmental Services Team, Providing a mentoring/supervisory role to more junior members of our team.
Required:
Applied geomorphology in rivers (and preferably estuarine and coastal environments), Water Framework Directive Assessments, geomorphology and river restoration design work, and would be desirable to have experience of catchment management planning/schemes/projects and understanding of Ecosystems Approach and Natural Capital.
Special requirements:
Must be willing and able to travel on an occasional basis to sites and other office locations throughout the UK.
Full time & Part time will be considered for this role.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education & training: BSc Geography, Geology or similar Environmental Sciences
Member of relevant professional institution (e.g. CIWEM or RGS/IBG) working towards Chartered status
Knowledge base: Geomorphology, hydrology, flood and coastal erosion risk management, Water Framework Directive, river restoration
Skills: Qualitative and quantitative interpretation and analysis of geomorphological issues
Personal attributes: Articulate, solution-minded, teamworker, confident communicator.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
Masters / other postgraduate qualification in relevant subject such as catchment management
Chartered Member of relevant professional institution (e.g. CIWEM, CEnv, CSci, CGeog)
Previous experience in environmental / engineering consultancy
Experience working for / with the Environment Agency and water companies
Experience across range of rivers, estuarine and coastal environments
Sediment transport calculations
