My client has a contract opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer, OLE based in the South West of the country for a contract. You will be responsible for the Management of a team of Engineers and Foundation subcontractors involved with an OLE project.

As the Geotechnical Engineer, OLE you will have an understanding of the relevant rail standards and in OLE foundation installation and will promote safety as a priority enabling your team to deliver quality results, safely, to National standards and meeting client requirements.

You will have previous experienced of having worked as a Geotechnical Engineer, OLE and an appreciation of OLE systems, with specific competency within the planning and implementation of foundation installation.

The ability to understand and follow key processes and be able to give clear direction and follow instructions given by line management.

You will report directly to the OLE Foundations Delivery Manager and supporting the client Rail Electrification business unit.

Key Responsibilities will be to:-

Assist and support the Delivery Manager ensuring project compliance with statutory legislation, Network Rail Group and Company Standards, and Company management systems, processes and procedures.

Responsible for ensuring that all planned Safety Inspections are completed in accordance with the approved programme and that identified actions are closed out in a timely manner

Adhere to and brief SSOW packs and Task Briefs in line with the standards and the relevant project Work Package Plan(s)

Ensure that adequate site access and welfare facilities are provided for all work activities and used correctly.

Create and Deliver regular monthly safety meetings to the delivery Team

Plan regular safety meetings with direct reports and site staff to include cascades of safety briefing

Ensure that accident / incident reporting and investigations are undertaken in a timely manner as instructed and in accordance with the safety management system, and that issues arising are addressed in a timely manner.

Responsible for ensuring that the ground disturbance procedure / permit to dig is strictly adhered to records kept accordingly

Promote safe working practices; ensure full implementation and compliance with safety rules and regulations.

Liaise with internal Senior Project Team, OLE Delivery Manager, OLE Construction Manager, OLE Site Managers, OLE Engineers and Linesman. Also external parties, such as; Network Rail Site Management and Field Engineers.

Key Skills, Experience:-

You will have a background in Civil and/or geotechnical Engineering is essential

You will hold Management training /qualification with relevant practical experience (desirable)

Experience in Managing and leading a Foundations OLE site team to successfully deliver high profile multi discipline contracts (required)

A broad appreciation and experience of railway OHL installation and equipment (required)

Computer literacy – Excel, Word, Power point and Outlook (required)

Use of Railway planning systems (essential)

Understanding of the Railway operating environment (essential)

Strong interpersonal skills to influence and communicate effectively with site staff and project team

Read, understand and comment on OLE Drawings (required)

Time management skills (required)

Knowledge of HS&E requirements

Risk assessment and method statement writing skills

Team Briefing creation and delivery skills (required)

Diplomacy and Negotiation skills (desirable)

Qualifications Required:-

PTS /IWA

Civil and/or geotechnical Engineering (HNC)

Management training /qualification

Computer literacy – Excel, Word, Power point and Outlook

Railway planning system
