PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To maintain the Network Rail owned Mobile Maintenance Trains in a safe manner, in accordance with the maintenance instructions, in accordance with the Competency Based Standards for Fitter Maintainers, and in accordance with the Colas Railway Safety Case.
Key Accountabilities

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Reporting to the MMT Maintenance Manager giving technical support on operational and maintenance issues and liaising with other departments within Colas Rail Services.
- Completing detailed reports of any failures breakdowns.
- To work safely with due regard to their own and other people's wellbeing.
- Communicate in a professional manner with customer.
- Respond to, and if possible, fix faults and failures.
- Report all faults and failures immediately to the Maintenance Manager.
- Use spill kits to reduce the environmental effect of any oil spills and report any spills to the Colas Rail Services Control Desk.
- Shut down machine safely.
- Carry out daily monthly annual maintenance and safety checks.
- Carry out maintenance as specified in the maintenance schedule.
- To carry out repairs and maintenance to a high standard on Mobile Maintenance Trains operated by Colas Rail Services to ensure that the reliability is maintained as high as possible and within contract.
- Report directly to the Maintenance Manager both whilst undertaking all duties at stabling locations, depot locations and Rugby Depot.
- Comply with all local and company rules or instructions on safety matters.
- Participate in a positive manner in all company safety initiatives.
- Attend safety and team briefing sessions as required by the company.
- Complete all appropriate documentation or computer based systems for maintenance in a responsible and professional manner making it available to the Maintenance Manager for examination and filling.
- Attend for work in compliance with a previously agreed Roster, which will include weekends and night shifts.
- Be prepared to attend off or on-site training to improve knowledge and competence of operations and maintenance techniques and practices.
- Present for duty promptly and fit to carry out their duties as required by the company policy and procedures and book on and off duty through the Colas Rail Services Control Desk at Rugby.
- Be in possession of a full and valid UK road vehicle driving license, which must be presented for inspection by the company when required.
- Participate fully and proactively in the company competency assessment programme.
DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY
- Delegate authority in accordance with Colas Rail procedures.
REPORT PREPARATION
- Accident Incident investigations
- Period reports on production as requested by Head of Plant Operations
- Ad Hoc reporting as required
PRINCIPLE CONTACTS
- Contact with Colas Rail UK Directors, Managers and Staff at all levels.
- Frequent contact and interaction with Operating staff and Rail Operations Standards Manager.
- Contact with Network Rail Managers, Engineers and Planners
Person Specification
- The job holder must have experience of maintaining most or all; mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- It is desirable that the job holder have experience of maintaining rail vehicles preferably On Track Machines.
Qualifications and Experience
- To be able to work a shift pattern that will include days, nights and weekends.
- Able to maintain machines to business requirements.
- Keep in date all relevant maintenance competencies including PTS, DP.
- Ensure compliance with all company standards and procedures when carrying out maintenance works.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work safely and under own initiative without supervision.
- Ability to understand technical drawings and maintenance schedules.
- Physically fit and have passed the required company medical.
- Flexible, honest and reliable.
- Possess a structured methodical approach to problem solving.
- Demonstrate the ability to work equally as well as an individual or as part of a team.
- Have served any approved and appropriate apprenticeship either internal or external may be advantageous.
- Willingness to continue personal development through training.
- Having a positive outlook on the requirement for continuous change to accommodate the current business needs.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Certified for Incident Accident investigations
- For positions covering the southern region a current PTS appropriate to CTRL Is required
- Holder of a current full UK driving licence
- Ability to identify competency standards required as a result of legislation, operational standards and safety procedures and maintain same by audit and surveillance
