About the role:
Join the UK’s largest rail engineering and services provider and fast track your career as an MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) Plant Fitter. As part of our Eastleigh and Effingham Train Depot seasonal treatment team, you will be working with our fleet of on-track machine’s while being part of a leading engineering firm that can take you far.
Maintaining and repairing our multi-purpose vehicles and associated modules to keep our Wessex rail network operational 24/7, you’ll make sure the fleet of MPV’s are available to ensure the rail network remains’ clear – no matter how challenging the weather or season. This will include diagnosing faults, repairing auxiliary power units and planned maintenance as part of a customer-focused, close-knit team. Plus of course, keeping your skills sharp through our training programme.
In this role you will:
- Undertake planned maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of the MPV and associated modules (Auxiliary Power Unit (APU), Sandite unit, De-ice unit and water tanks
- Work as part of a close-knit team who are customer focused and thrive on operational success
- Adhere to a Safety Critical Assessment Process for the maintenance of all equipment
- Ensure all operational tasks are adhered to in accordance with internal and external policies
- Undertake training as required to retain and obtain the required competencies levels
- Champion the Balfour Beatty safety culture; Zero Harm – Make safety personal
The hours will include nights and weekends, but you’ll be joining a leader in rail infrastructure engineering. We also offer huge scope for personal and professional development on a wide range of exciting, high profile rail infrastructure activities.
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Have served a recognised apprenticeship/minimum level 3 Certificate in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical) or hold a minimum Level 3 certificate in Engineering
- Have previous Plant Experience (diesel engines, pneumatic braking systems, CAN Bus systems, 3 phase generators)
- Be able to work in high pressure operational situations; fault diagnosis with efficient resolution
- Ideally have experience of working within a safety critical environment
- Be physically fit and able to work outside in all weather conditions
- Be willing to work unsociable hours – nights, weekends, Bank holidays (Easter, Christmas and New Year)
- Live within an hour’s commute of the Depot
We’re looking for an experienced Plant Fitter with a recognised apprenticeship or min. level 3 Certificate in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical), and Plant experience (such as diesel engines, pneumatic braking systems, CAN Bus systems or 3 phase generators). Working outside in all weathers, you’ll also need to thrive on pressure and have the ability to diagnose faults quickly and accurately.
