Senior Estimator in City of London, London, United Kingdom
Responsible for the use and continuous improvement (in conjunction with others) of Tender/ Estimating systems & procedures, preparing accurate and timely prime cost and sales estimates for projects to consistent and competitive levels. Providing assistance and input into tenders led by other team members on an as & when required basis.
Accountabilities
- Production of estimates from a first principles basis using industry known estimating software, using standard methods of Measurements where required.
- Liaising with project team including, design, construction and planning to ensure the most cost effective methods are utilized.
- Liaise and negotiate with end clients to ascertain the exact requirements for estimates and understanding budget constraints.
- Continuous support during construction stage and assisting / undertaking the costing of Variations and identifying change to the contract scope.
- Understand the restriction and their affects on the works to be undertaken and report back to project team
- Produce estimates from at various stages of the GRIP process with varying degrees of information
- Forming/ refining a database of activity outputs (norms) and unit prime costs for product groups. For undertaking and maintaining a process of regular review and update of such data and information to ensure that it is current at all times.
- Supply chain development. Including the sourcing, introduction, vetting, monitoring, review and feedback of companies, individuals, products and systems to ensure that a competitive, innovative and differentiated market edge is maintained at all times.
- Playing a key role within tender meetings, in submitting and managing bids and for accurate documentation preparation, revision and submission at all required stages through to award of contract, including negotiation stages.
- The accurate and timely preparation of all necessary and relevant documentation for handover of successful tenders or offers to management & project teams and for convening, leading and documenting (including minutes) the respective handover meetings.
- Maintaining an up to date understanding of technical, contractual and commercial developments and continually seeking to win contracts through negotiation, single tender action or by alternative solutions.
- Preparation and submission of reports as may be required on a regular or ad hoc basis.
- Continually developing and maintaining key customer and supplier contacts.
- For managing or undertaking any other activities or tasks as may be deemed necessary by senior management in order to meet the ongoing or changing needs of the business.
- Identifying Safety, Quality & Method Statement requirements within tender documentation & actioning appropriate responses.
- Maintaining an appropriate awareness of changing criteria and statutory needs in respect of Health & Safety, Quality and Project Management.
Essential Skills
Proven experience in a similar role is required e.g. Estimator, which will ideally include involvement in multidisciplinary projects.
Good Technical and Operational Knowledge of the rail environment.
Must be familiar with MS Office applications, estimating software/ systems and presentation techniques. Must be capable of using these to best effect to add value to the tender and work winning process.
A self motivated individual able to work Autonomously as well as within a team .Excellent communications skills. An open minded individual with an interest in self-development, learning and preferably career progression.
Must be able to lead on estimates with minimal supervision
Project delivery experience within the rail industry.
