Title Senior Planner (Rail)
Position Overview
Reporting to Director Track, the Senior Rail Scheduler will be a key member of the Rail Team and will be instrumental in leading planning activities across multiple rail transit projects.
Under the general supervision of Director Track, the Senior Rail Scheduler will be responsible for providing guidance and support to the Rail Management Team. The Planner/Scheduler will be responsible for the production and development of complex, resource and cost loaded project schedules, gathering and interpreting project data from both internal and external sources throughout the project's lifecycle and influence and advise on corrective actions when necessary.
The Planner will cover the following rail transit disciplines:
- Trackwork
- Signaling
- Traction power supply
- Traction power distribution
- Communications
- Civil Infrastructure
- Temporary works
- Systems and vehicle integration
- Maintenance of way equipment
Key Responsibilities;
- Plan and supervise the effort to establish milestones for complete projects or major portions of projects. Review project work activities to ensure support of project milestones
- Development and maintenance of resource and cost loaded project schedules for multi-year projects in Primavera P6
- Gathering and interpreting project data from both internal and external sources
- Provide planning, scheduling guidance and support for various project teams by suggesting the most appropriate period or season to execute works in while minimizing impacts on the environment
- Develop Risk Registers for new contracts and provide Risk impact analysis support for active work
- Responsible for the development and total integration of the schedule activities and individual schedules provided by third parties Identify schedule considerations and challenges resulting from interdisciplinary or group restraints and interfaces, internally and with third parties
- Review the performing spreads' work logic and determine adequacy of schedules in support of overall project schedule
- Assist the monitoring, reviewing, and analysis of the schedule and status during all phases of the project, including the analysis of any schedule deviations and corrective actions.
- Question subcontractors' schedules, while forecasting and trending completion target dates to ensure contractor plans are realistic and achievable. Reports serious deviations accordingly
- Assure that all Schedules developed follow the Standard Project Coding Systems and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS),
- Activity Coding System, and Activity ID numbering System
- Create and implement progress measurements and/or validate contractors' perceived progress including KPI's
- Maintain schedule forecast throughout the project life cycle by verifying schedules are properly updated and linked to the master schedules, if prepared by third parties and/ or concession partners
- Plan, organize, and supervise schedule resource loading and leveling through the project lifecycle
- Work closely with the Project Controls team to align project baseline schedules with baseline budget for all direct and indirect accounts and activities, identify trends and schedule impacts for Project Control Team attention
- Able to work with Estimators in developing job estimates in Hard Dollar estimating software to create Primavera P6 resource and cost loaded schedules which will also tie into the ERP system as required
- Develop cost curves based on control estimates and project schedules for cash and revenue forecasting
- Monitor and report critical path and schedule performance of the total project. assist with project schedule analysis and studies of problem areas to determine criticality of schedule and seek the advice of the Project Controls Team
- Review or assist in reviewing proposal provisions related to schedule and develop supporting data for contract negotiations
- Review and analyze comparisons of scope, quantities, and cost data between the projects
- Perform productivity analysis of construction operations and verify results by staffing and crew analysis of work operations by discipline
- Provide the Project Control Team with timely, informed, and up-to-date project schedule information including trends and forecasts as well as progress, schedule and planning input to the weekly, Bi-weekly and monthly project reports, to support the contract requirements
- Implement and enforce the Health and Safety program
- Maintain excellent stakeholder relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal divisions
Required Knowledge & Skills;
- 7 - 10 years' experience in project planning/scheduling
- Experience in the Rail Transit sector
- Proficient in Primavera P6
- Ability to schedule and track multiple projects from concept to completion
- Strong communication skills - oral and written
- Self-motivated with good organizational skills
- Ability to work with others as a team
- Bachelor's Degree would be an advantage
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, MS Word and Excel
