The Technical Author will be responsible for the management and delivery of core documentation for the infrastructure, supporting and producing standards, processes and procedures that will be used by Engineers to perform safe operations in a consistent and controlled manner. In addition, you will develop publications that introduce best practice in terms of productivity, reliability, innovation and quality into the workplace.
To lead the production and delivery of core maintenance process documentation.
- To set the standard expected from infrastructure Engineers and to lead in the standardisation of process documentation.
- To define and document the Information Policies, Strategies and Working Procedures ensuring these align and deliver the organisation¡¦s needs.
- To establish and understand customer requirements and obtain technical information and detailed knowledge from Subject Matter Experts.
- To conduct peer reviews of technical documentation to gain stakeholder approval and ensure the quality of authored tasks meet the set specification and standards.
- To liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that items are delivered to the agreed plan and set timeframes.
- To interface with London Overground, London Underground, MTR, Crossrail and Network Rail, Asset Engineering and Operations to ensure appropriate integration of procedures.

- Adapting to strategic needs and competing priorities.
- Providing process definition and standardisation.
Reporting to the Engineering Maintenance Manager / Engineering Mobilisation Manager.
- Interfacing with various Maintenance & Engineering disciplines.
- Liaising with Project Managers including the project delivery team.
- Liaising with Operation Business team and wider Operations directorate for governance and performance progress reporting.
- There will be no direct budgetary responsibility in this role, but the role will be expected to review and assess the cost impact of potential changes and advise accordingly.
Technical authoring experience, preferably gained in a related environment e.g. within the engineering or rail industry.
- Experience in developing standards, processes & procedures for rail systems.
- Able to understand complex, technical concepts and translate them into clear, accessible content with accuracy and attention to detail.
- An awareness of Environment, Health, Safety, Security and Quality practices as applicable to a rail environment.
- Good organisational and interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Able to work using own initiative and manage own workload.
- Confident and professional in face-to-face, phone, email and web communications.
- High level of computer literacy, good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Visio, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of documentation management systems.
- Experience of working in a railway maintenance environment would be advantageous.
