PURPOSE OF JOB
Operation, servicing, maintenance and repair of the Ground Wheel Lathe.
Carry out maintenance of diesel multiple units to recognised standards and laid down procedures whilst playing an active role to ensure that the reliability and availability targets are consistently met and improved. Comply with instructions, rules and regulations in force.
LIST OF DUTIES
KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
Maintenance: successful completion of level 3 NVQ Engineering competence necessary to undertake tasks and or recognised Engineering apprenticeship
Good technical knowledge covering mechanical, electrical, plumbing & vehicle building skills, including schematics (Electrical, Air & Hydraulic)
An extensive knowledge and experience of railway operation and maintenance practices is desirable
Previous experience of DMU maintenance practice is desirable
A good understanding of COSHH safety related instructions is essential
Must have an ability to communicate clearly and confidently with all levels of personnel both written and oral
Demonstrate ability to work on own initiative
Good interpersonal skills

- Maintaining safety standards and safe methods of working.
- Ensuring full compliance with systems for investigation and reporting of accidents to employees and other reportable incidents ensuring effective corrective action is taken to prevent recurrence
- Ensuring the safety of employees, contractors and visitors who are working in the department
- Check that immediate reports receive and understand relevant safety related documentation
