An opportunity for a Reliability Engineer to join a multi-discipline group who are responsible for all engineering assurance activities on a portfolio of rail automation products developed by the R&D (UK) department.  The product portfolio supports both mainline and mass transit railway projects, and includes safety-critical and safety-related products.

The role requires the application of reliability engineering processes, techniques and standards to complex products, in order to obtain good quality reliability data on the products developed and used by Siemens.  This data will be used to support life cycle cost (LCC) modelling.

The job would suit an engineer with an understanding of reliability modelling and an interest in life cycle cost (LCC) modelling.  We would also consider recent graduates with good mathematical skills and a strong interest in the topic.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Analysing customer Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM) and Life Cycle Cost (LCC) requirements
  • Defining RAM and LCC requirements for Siemens products
  • Planning the RAM activities needed to support product development and introduction
  • Reviewing and analysing product designs, in order to determine if they will meet the RAM and LCC targets
  • Producing reliability predictions for new or modified products, to support the justification for entry into service, and demonstrate compliance with customer acceptance criteria
  • Supporting the collection and analysis of reliability data from products in service, in order demonstrate the products meet their targets, and to provide and refine data to support life cycle cost (LCC) modelling
  • Contribute to the life cost prediction modelling for the systems delivered by Siemens Rail Automation
  • Comply with the company process, relevant legislation, and relevant standards (e.g. CENELEC 50126/50128/50129 and IEC 61508 etc.)

  • Ability to understand complex products and systems (essential)
  • Experience of techniques to support RAM analysis, such as producing reliability predictions (e.g. using MIL-HDBK-217F Reliability Prediction of Electronic Equipment), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis, Reliability Block Diagrams, etc
  • Experience of Life Cycle Cost (LCC) or Whole Life Cost (WLC) modelling
  • Experience with CENELEC 50126/50128/50129 or IEC 61508 standards
