TXM Recruit are working with a close client to help support their ever growing success by recruiting a Production Engineer that has experience working in the Rail industry. You will be working in the manufacturing teams in developing cost effective and efficient production methods as well as plans to meet customer requirements whilst complying with relevant Standards.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Daily

• Assisting the Production Engineering and Compliance Manager, to achieve departmental requirements
• Create the work breakdown structures necessary to manufacture vehicles, components and systems in a safe manner and ensuring production targets, including but not limited to budget and timescales, are achieved
• Support the creation of detailed production plans and Car History Books through development of job cards, alignment of BOM’s and specification of tooling requirements
• Provide Production Engineering input as required to future business opportunities / bids
• Ensure the integrity of systems data, including the ERP system is maintained to latest standards / versions and is robust
• Promoting awareness and use of the Business Management System, identifying opportunities for training
• Provide technical support to Production personnel, ensuring all queries are addressed in a timely fashion
• Assisting and managing the transfer of information provided to the Engineering Department in relation to Change Control of engineering drawings
• Evaluation of Build documentation, identifying opportunities for improvements and further requirements
• Manage non-conformances resulting from manufacturing outputs, updating register(s) – Internal / Customer / Supplier, escalating and progressing as appropriate to resolve issues
• Perform regular and routine Patrol Inspections of all manufacture areas, recording data as appropriate / required
• Responsible for the review and development of manufacturing processes, conducting quality checks, troubleshooting faulty parts, Jigs and fixtures
• Asist with the planning and co-ordination of effective production and quality product(s)

Weekly

• Review and maintain Calibrated and Specialist equipment registers, liaising with Business Management System Technical Administrator on effective management
• Collation and updating KPI data and Display Boards

Monthly

• Review Training Matrices

Previous experience

Essential

• Minimum of 3 years current experience within a similar position, industry and engineering environment (mechanical and electrical systems)
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• A strong background and experience of document and data control
• Quality aware and experience of working within a customer focused environment
• Prioritise and perform duties whilst under minimum supervision
• Experience with detailed report writing, WI’s, QA, Safety
• Strong IT skills, data entry, with attention to detail and accuracy
• Proactive and engaging to work efficiently to deadlines, in order to achieve targets
• Excellent team player with a proactive hands-on approach
• Flexibility to performing other tasks if required, and willing to learn new skills
• Inspection activities, checking processes and procedural requirements of the Rail Industry
• Strong problem-solving skills and confident to make informed, evidence-based decisions

Desirable

• Experience with the creation of FAI documentation
• Qualified / current experience of using Lean Six Sigma
• Planning experience, NPI, and product life cycle
• Experience of working within the guidelines of BS EN ISO 9001, ISO 14001, EN 15085
• Experience of working within the Rail Industry and application of Rail Industry Standards (RIS)
• Experience of Supply Chain management – Supplier auditing
• A member of, or working towards membership of a relevant engineering institution (IMechE, IET etc)
