Samuel Knight are delighted to be recruiting for this critical position with our high profile Rail operating company client. The company work across the UK and Internationally, however this position is for a candidate able to consider work in Scotland.
We are able to consider candidates that would work daily in Glasgow or Edinburgh.

The Role
This position will contribute to the delivery of our client's UK rail business. You will be principally responsible for developing a trained, well equipped Rail team to meet the on-going and increasing business requirements.
Above all you will be responsible for the management of our Train Drivers & Groundstaff.
Responsibilities to meet & Principal Duties
Health & Safety
- Deliver a safety culture that is embraced across the business, this should be supported by well planned safety processes that are in accord with the wider company policy, as well as industry norms & legislation.
- Deliver a team of drivers that are all capable of handling emergency situations (major incidents and accidents)
- Ensure safety arrangements are adhered too - you will own the Health and Safety procedure from conception to delivery. This should include employees, the public and other users of the railway.
Staff Development
- Champion the development of your team through leadership, collaborative working, aspiration and collective responsibility
- Provide support to your teams, advise them on personal development opportunities, individual performance and that of the general business
- As above, ensure all staff are trained sufficiently in all aspects of health & safety
Standards & Assurance of Compliance
- With regard to Groundstaff & Driver competence, deliver the highest possible quality of assessment and mentorship
- Provide a clear demonstration of a "continuous improvement" mentality across the business, and lead from the front.
- Go above & beyond the industry standard for competence of our staff, develop a group level of competence and make it industry leading
Quality of Work
- Deliver an operations function that delivers against the demand of our business , day in, day out.
- Develop contingency plans to reduce impact of variable circumstances
- Minimise lost journies, delays and late arrivals.
We are keen to speak to candidates who have the above experience already in name & title, but can also consider experienced drivers who have held the responsibility of assessment, mentorship, team leading etc. and have the desire to progress into a role like this.
Basic Criteria for applicants.
- Must have prior experience of working for a Passenger or Freight Rail operating company , in the UK.
- Must have previous experience of Train Driving on UK Mainline network, either in Passenger or Freight operating company. In absence of the this – candidates with extensive experience in operational management within a Passenger or Freight company, can be considered.
