We are currently recruiting for 2 Assistant Project Managers who will be working on a diverse and challenging range of projects across Surface Transport (including major construction schemes, contract re-lets and business transformation initiatives, with a value of c£1.5bn).
The Assistant Project Manager will be responsible for the following:
- To support in the implementation of project governance, reporting and controls tools and processes, in line with Portfolio Office guidance.
- Identifying emerging issues, providing recommendations and escalating to the Project Manager for potential courses of action as appropriate.
- Deputise for the Project Manager as required, ensuring project and resource plans are managed and will monitor delivery against the agreed plan.
- Responsible for delivering project/programme workstream activity both on site and office based, and delivery of assigned work packages in the wider context of the overall project or programme.
- Supports various project delivery activities with the assigned project or programme on a day-to-day basis, including but not limited to issue resolution, progress reporting, risk management, budget management and on-schedule achievement of project deliverables.
- Responsible for supporting the Project Manager in building effective relationships with the project Sponsor team and other key stakeholders.
The Skills, Knowledge and Experience expected of the Assistant Project Manager will be as follows:
- Knowledge and understanding of project controls tools and techniques (Essential)
- Understanding of working in a highways civils environment with practical knowledge and application (Essential)
- Ideally CSCS qualified and knowledge of CDM to work within Highway civils schemes (Essential)
- Ideally a Professional Qualification in Project Management, e.g. PRINCE2, APMP (Desirable)
- Analyse complex data (quantitative and qualitative), draw conclusions, and produce solutions (Essential)
- Build effective working relations with people within own project teams and with delivery partners outside the organisation (Essential)
- Knowledge and understanding of project and programme management methodologies and their practical application in a transport setting (Desirable)
- Significant experience of delivering packages of work within projects (Desirable)
