Assistant Project Manager in London, United Kingdom
The Signalling Power & Cooling Team requires an Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of the projects in the Cooling, Ventilation and Low Carbon Portfolio.
Key Accountabilities:
Delivery of projects at all life cycle stages within the Cooling, Ventilation and Low Carbon team, to achieve safety, cost and time objectives.
Notably:
• Ownership of commercial aspects of the project; ensuring financial authority is in place for procurement and subsequent contract variations.
• Ownership of an integrated programme schedule.
• Prepare integral project governance documentation and assist with project HSE functions and ensure all documentation is in place
• Prepare and manage project implementation plan, including responsibility matrix, detailed programmes, and cost and resource plans.
• Analyse performance, implementation, and commercial data; make decisions where appropriate or provide recommendations.
• Implement and maintain an appropriate reporting structure for performance, implementation, and commercial issues.
• Ensure compliance with all LU Rules and Standards and regulatory bodies regulations.
Experience
• Experience of working in project management in a large, complex, safety focussed and regulated organisation(s), where there are multiple complex interfaces, and delivering to time budget and quality
• Experience of making day-to-day decisions around project issues
• Experience of working on contracts/projects in a commercial environment particularly relating to projects of £1 million+ in value (either as an individual or as a member of a team with specific areas of responsibility)
• Experience of building effective working relationships with people at all levels across an organisation and externally
• Experience of analysis of projects data
• Experience of working in a team-based service environment
• Experience of managing small to medium projects independently
• Experience of working under the NEC3 contract or similar.
• Experience of undertaking site visits for safety, quality and audit inspections
• Knowledge and understanding of planning and project management tools and techniques.
• Experience of managing the contractual aspects and obligations of projects.
• Experience of building relationships with, and influencing, a range of people at all levels within and outside the organisation.
• Experience of working in a construction or engineering environment.
Knowledge
• Knowledge and understanding of risk management processes
• Knowledge and understanding of contractual issues in a project environment.
• Knowledge and understanding of financial control and procurement processes and techniques.
• Knowledge and understanding of planning and project management tools and techniques.
• Knowledge of safety issues in an operating railway environment
Skills
• Ability to analyse complex data, draw conclusions, produce reports and make recommendations to senior management.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally.
• Understanding of CDM and ability to undertake safety inspections on site to improve suppliers HSE performance
• Holding a valid Sentinel card is mandatory in order to access railway infrastructure. Additional permits including Substation Entry Permit would be desirable.
• Ability to build effective working relationships, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally and to influence.
• Ability to plan, implement and manage projects to deliver to time, budget and quality.
• Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective performance.
• Ability to use office based computer packages, e.g. MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
