Project Manager - Rail in Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom

I am recruiting for a Project Manager to join a specialist contractor to lead a package of works on a new framework contract they have with Network Rail in Wales and the South West. The Project Manager will ensure that the scope of works is delivered in a safe manner, on time, to the required quality standards, meeting acceptance criteria and achieving the expected commercial outcomes.

Key duties for the Project Manager include:

Managing a portfolio of works, working closely with the internal departments delivering the works at all times
Line management of Operations Managers, Engineers and Surveyors
To plan and deliver all work on each scheme, ensuring it is completed on time and to the agreed standard
Responsible for effective client relationship management and provides updates to internal and external stakeholders on project/contract progress
Working closely with the Commercial Manager, responsible for all commercial activities associated with the project including the delivery of the agreed gross margin, management of cost control and other key commercial and financial metrics


To be considered for this role the Project Manager should have extensive experience in project management on railway civil engineering or associated projects, and have experience of working closely with Network Rail project teams, ideally having worked with a tier 1 contractor. The Project Manager will also:

Have strong relationship management skills, and previous exposure to Network Rail and their project teams including attendance of key Client meetings
Proven ability to lead teams, develop others, manage projects and assume client accountability in a commercially aware rail contractor
Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Experience in working with commercial teams internally and at Network Rail and able to manage cost in a 'target cost' format
Solid understanding of Network Rail's change management processes
Be experienced in compliance with CDM regulations and production and approval of H&S documentation, eg: CPP, WPP, TBS, Permit to Dig
Be experienced in planning and delivering works in a railway possession environment, including working with Possession Planners and SSOW Planners
Be willing to travel to Head Office on a weekly basis to meet with senior management team to report on programme and progress
Be willing to travel across the Wales & Western region, in some cases staying overnight occasionally
Have gained Bachelor's Degree or HNC qualified in a civil, geotechnical or construction engineering discipline
Hold PTS AC and ICI
Hold a Full UK driving license
Salary and package available for this position will be in the region of £45,000 to £50,000 per annum with car allowance and other company benefits also available.
