Project Manager (York or Manchester Base) in Ashby de la Zouch, GB-MAN, United Kingdom

Siemens Plc, Rail Systems are currently recruiting for a Project Manager to be responsible for the application of effective Project Management processes, practices and techniques to maintain the integrity of  time, cost, quality and safety objectives,  to ensure the delivery of the business case. The Project Manager will utilise strong commercial and interpersonal skills to link  customer requirements with the technical delivery of new and refurbished rolling stock. 

This role will be between York and Manchester therefore the Project Manager can be based in or near to either location.

The successful individual will oversee technical reviews and may manage the commissioning and installation of modifications and upgrades in line with customer expectations. Executes continuous improvement plan. Performs active role in maintaining client relationship.  Projects at Siemens Rail Systems typically fall into four  categories, following similar life cycles:  Existing fleet modification, component modification, enhancement and repair; New fleet acquisition/introduction; Scheduled maintenance programme; Maintenance optimisation, technical investigation e.g. corrosion

This position will support projects pertinent to the Northern Region on <phone number removed> & 380 fleets.  The role will initially be responsible for the management and delivery of the 185 Modifications project. Implementing effective Project management processes, practices and techniques to deliver the project. The Project Manager will utilise strong interpersonal and communication skills to enable full engagement of the supply chain to deliver this complex project.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Required to; minimise the risk of any safety incidents occurring; to increase the reliability of the companys assets; maximise the availability of Siemens Rails fleet; optimise the costs linked with the project execution.
  • Define project against the utility of the Asset: Its Regulatory Requirement (existing, emerging, possible), The Passenger Environment (design, flexibility, accessibility, facilities, systems), The Operating Capabilities (route clearance, acceleration, speed, redundancy), Necessary Asset Support (technical documentation, supplier performance, obsolescence risk, facilities and spares).
  • Project development and management of rolling stock new build/major refurbishment/re-engineering/mandatory modification/maintenance contracts, to ensure that operational service of the units is achieved to budget, programme and spec. quality.
  • Production of Project Planning, in accordance with the Business Processes (PM@Siemens), consisting of WBS, Project Plan (Cost and Programme), risk and opportunity management in accordance with PM@Siemens and Safety/ Quality Plan etc.
  • Exercise management control on services used for the execution of the project and the selection and allocation of professional and technical staff.  Optimise resource usage within project programme and cost constraints.
  • Regular reviews with the Senior/Lead Project Manager or Fleet Delivery Manager, Head of Projects to agree resourcing levels against project activities and budget plans.
  • Project Planning, Controlling and Closure.

What do I need to qualify for the role?

  • Evidence of project management experience at a senior level, leading the delivery of contracts on major capital projects in the Rail, Energy, Oil & Gas or similar high value asset based industrial environment.
  • Educated to Degree level or Diploma or demonstrates equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and Safety Management Systems.
  • Good interpersonal and negotiation skills, with experience of team management to motivate and lead by example.
  • Good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Experience working in matrix organisations, with cross functional groups.
  • Knowledge and experience of supply chain contract strategy and management.
  • Thorough knowledge of railway business and operating requirements, including rolling stock technical aspects/practices, and Railway Group Standards.
  • Chartered Engineer with membership of a senior Engineering Institution.
  • A further qualification in project management (MSc) or business studies (MBA), with Membership of the Association of Project Management (APMP) or Institute of Project Managers.
  • Good analytical and problem solving ability, comfortable with both big picture and detail as the need arises.
  • Understand the competitive market and the importance of delivery of excellent customer service at all times.
  • Familiarity with Siemens Rail Systems Divisions project management processes and procedures
