Becoming a Project Manager (Rail) with Capita Real Estate & Infrastructure:

Capita has a vacancy for a rail-biased consultancy Project Manager to join our team based in Barnet and the City of London. This is an opportunity for an established Assistant Project Manager ready to take a step up or a PM with some real experience on Rail infrastructure and station builds. It is essential that you have worked in rail already.

About the Project

The Brent Cross Cricklewood Regeneration project is one of the biggest regeneration projects in Europe it will deliver a whole new quarter for London and you will be involved in the development of:

  • A new Thameslink train station and enhanced replacement bus station;
  • Extensive changes to the highway, cycle and pedestrian network including a new pedestrian and cycle ‘living bridge’ over the A406 and vehicular bridge over the Midland Mainline railway;
  • New and refurbished public parks, including a new riverside park along a diverted section of the River Brent;
  • Replacement rail freight facilities.

The post is based within Re (Regional Enterprise Limited) which is a joint venture between the London Borough of Barnet and Capita. Re runs the Council’s development and regulatory services including strategic planning, development management and regeneration services.

Definition of the Role

You will support the successful delivery of the Brent Cross Cricklewood Regeneration Programme on behalf of Re, with a particular focus on the management of the Thameslink Station Project. You will do this with the support of the Project Director and your fellow consultants and PM’s.

The role will include the full range of project and programme management skills and will offer the opportunity for substantial professional and personal growth. The role is full time and will be split between Re’s offices in Barnet and Capita’s offices in the City of London flexible and home working is encouraged and the strength of the team is on an open and honest culture.

About the job:

You will manage key aspects of the project plan comprising designated work packages or projects, including the identification of gaps, conducting reviews and putting actions in place to ensure the Rail programme delivers on cost, to time and to the required standard. You will undertake aspects of project delivery as identified in project plans and as allocated by the Project Director.

Your responsibilities will be focused on coordinating people and actions, creating reports and attending update meetings. You will also develop relationships with clients and your team which will allow you to identify risks and opportunities through your networks.

You will be responsible for tracking and administration in the form of action plans, reports, emails, Microsoft Projects and other business critical tasks. Once you have applied, and if you are shortlisted, a full Job specification will be provided.

This is a stand out project with a complicated structure and demanding work schedule so you must be willing to put in the extra effort needed to reach mile stones and bring the project in on budget and within its predicted completion date. That said we are a supportive team who understand the challenges of the role and who allow flexible working and open communication to get things done.

Your experience will include:

  • An excellent understanding of the principles of effective project and programme management.
  • You will either be an Assistant Project Manager or established PM with real experience in project/programme management within the built environment.
  • Experience of management on construction contracts including the use of NEC3 and conducting site monitoring and contractor management.
  • You will need experience of rail related project experience that includes the management of rail related disciplines including OLE, Signals and Track. Ideally with both Contractor and Consultant experience.
  • Experience in working with rail and transport stakeholders including Network Rail, DfT and Train Operating Companies. Ideally this will have included direct secondments to operating companies or service providers.
  • Direct experience in developing Business Cases and Infrastructure Asset Management Plans.

Technical Skills and Qualifications

  • Construction or Engineering related Degree qualified
  • Computer literate

Requirements (Desirable)

  • Experience in using planning software such as Primavera or Microsoft Project
  • Some experience in large scale regeneration projects
  • Driving License and Personal transport
