We are seeking candidates who are able to demonstrate technical capability within innovation projects, who can work on the design and development of safety related systems in the rail industry and can bring that experience to bear with our team.
The Software Delivery Project Manager will lead a team of system and software engineers, carrying out technical project management activities to ensure the successful delivery of internal and costumer led projects.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of software engineers to carry out the software design, production and assurance of the software for the different signalling control systems develop by the Rail Signalling Software Delivery Team.
- Plan, implement, monitor and control of multiple software projects, including internal investment development project.
- Ensure projects are well run with appropriate management of scope, quality and budget.
- Contribute in the development of an agile software development environment.
- Preparation of activity breakdown, project plans, quality plans, risks, mitigation actions, cost and resource management reports.
- Facilitate project status/steering meetings and communicate with senior leadership and project stakeholders.
- Bring new ideas about software development, early delivery, continuous improvement and rapid and flexible response to change.
- Maintain and improve the processes, techniques and tools to provide safety assurance at the same time as increasing the level of automation of the software process.
- Manage the team workload and advise on the allocation of development resources.
- Plan and schedule development project in accordance with the roadmaps and clearly communicate the information to the wider company.
- Working as part of a team to provide technical engineering excellence in areas like configuration, documentation and change management.
- Report to the Future Signalling Systems Practice Manager and escalate issues when necessary.
- Liaising with the engineering team to support delivery projects.
Requirements
- Experience working as a Software Project Manager in a technical environment and desirable in safety critical systems.
- Proven team & technical leadership, as well as strong overall project management experience.
- Line management experience.
- Experience delivering systems according with EN50128 standards would be desirable.
- Knowledge of at least one structured project management process, such as Prince2, APM or PMP is essential.
- Experience in software production under agile methodologies (ASD, modelling, DSDM or others) certified scrum master is not essential but desirable
- Experience of working in V&V environments.
- Experience using model based design tools, configuration management tools and testing tools such as DOORS, JIRA, Matlab/Simulink, Labview, etc.
- HNC/degree (or equivalent) level in an Engineering discipline.
