Senior Project Engineer in London, United Kingdom
There are 2 Senior Project Engineer roles working for Network Rail which are deemed inside of IR35 so the £520 is a gross figure to be paid either via PAYE (£400 per day) or an Umbrella Company
Firstly there is a SPE role to be based in London James Forbes House as part of the IP Southern Development team answering to the Programme Engineering Manager. The role will work across a portfolio of multi-disciplinary development projects providing stations expertise predominately focused on GRIP 0-3 development and the integrated planning of future GRIP 4-8 stages. It is important that candidates come into the project team with an open mind and understanding that proactive application of Network Rail’s behaviours is essential to effectively succeeded with minimal resource availability. Safety leadership is of paramount importance.
The challenges of the role are:
• Collaborating with engineers, architects, PMs etc. who work for a variety of organisations, including other parts of Network Rail, suppliers, DfT, local councils and other third parties;
• Supporting public consultations where the schemes require them;
• Defining and managing requirements for stations, buildings, oversite developments and public realm changes;
• Providing technical assurance at GRIP stage gates and engineering phase gates;
• Acting as DPE on certain schemes;
• Providing stations engineering support from concept design through to achieving approval in principle.
About the role:
Your primary focus will be on Major Stations Enhancements, Victoria SE Stations including Battersea Park, Lewisham, Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye where you will act as lead project engineer (DPE) for the stations and associated development.
Essential
• Significant experience in engineering disciplines, ideally with involvement in station construction and design projects across multi discipline areas
• Technical qualifications to at least HND level or equivalent
• Membership of a relevant professional institution
• Experience of major contracting
• Knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects
• Knowledge of safety management and quality assurance
• Understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of works
• Accident investigation experience
• Experience of the development phases of projects;
• Experience of complex station projects;
• Experience of engineering management of projects;
• Experience of engineering safety management, including CSM and CDM;
• The applicant should be a chartered engineer and a member of an appropriate institution.
Secondly there is an SPE role to be based at Kings Cross
Kings Cross is going through a track layout remodeling scheme, including platform extensions, renewal of all the OHLE equipment as well as signaling. Network Rail requires a Senior Project Engineer to help with the following civil engineering works, the scope will involve:
- platform extensions,
- OHLE structures
- Signaling structures
- Slabbed track construction through a tunnel
- Brickwork strengthening works
- Equipment Buildings foundations a structure.
What you will do:
- Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to deliver a cost effective, high quality and safe approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities on relevant projects. Review all relevant legislation and liaise with relevant governmental departments.
- Monitor the competence of all Project Engineers working on projects within the functional discipline and provide functional guidance, direction and briefing.
- Apply engineering controls and procedures to all projects and check whether all design and construction contracts include reference to appropriate Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards applicable to their discipline.
- Apply relevant techniques and procedures of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and HAZOP analysis to all projects and check whether the environmental aspects of all projects are managed in accordance with Network Rail Environmental Policy.
- Monitor all projects for compliance with Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards and Network Rail project control procedures.
- Advise project and programme management in respect of all construction activities, testing and commissioning, and site supervision. Monitor whether the design and construction elements meet the requirements of legislation, including construction design management (CDM) regulations.
- Assess whether contractors’ design, construction and specialist personnel are competent.
- Undertake reviews of design and construction activities. Arrange audits of contractors to monitor whether safety and quality of design, construction testing and commissioning and management
