Technical Director (Transportation)
We are currently dealing with a major Engineering Consultancy who are looking to expand their team in London by recruiting a Technical Director to be responsible for leading the Transport Planning and Advisory discipline within the Transport business. Within this position as Technical Director, you will be responsible for the growth and development of the discipline, supporting bids and ultimately accountable for the technical outputs. This role is focused on delivering high-quality technical results on a wide range of projects across the business, focusing on the Highways and Rail sectors. As Technical Director, you will be a key member of the Transport Portfolio Senior Management Team, driving the UK business forward and supporting growth agendas.

As Technical Director your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Be a motivational and visible leader with a proven track record of delivering high-quality technical outcomes for our clients.
- Establish a growth strategy for our Transport Planning and Advisory discipline to improve our technical capability and capacity. Including working with our Resource Director to develop the broader technical people strategy and support the recruitment of key hires within the discipline.
- Provide oversight on technical delivery of all transport planning and advisory projects and services across Transport, including services provided to other parts of the business.
- Raise the profile of the capabilities of our Transport Planning & Advisory discipline with client and partner organisations. Create and develop relationships with these clients and partners.
- Work closely with our Highways and Rail Directors to identify opportunities, develop pursuit and win plans in line with our growth agenda.
- Work closely with the Transport Operations Director to provide strategic direction around Safety, Health, Environment and Wellbeing and address strategic and tactical issues around SHEW compliance.
Job requirements:
- Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., civil engineering, geography, economics, mathematics).
- Significant experience in the management of transport planning and advisory services.
- Extensive experience of leading the drafting, development, and approval of transport business cases - all 5 cases. Working with client centres of excellence such as DfT TASM etc.
- Experience of working with Transport client organisations across the UK.
- Experience in leading economic appraisal and value for money assessment.
- Experience in providing guidance and developing staff within the Transport planning and advisory team.
- Industry-leading knowledge of appraisal across a range of schemes, including highway, rail active travel and bus modes.
