Quality Engineer, Birmingham in Ashby de la Zouch, GB-BIR, United Kingdom

The Quality Engineers role is to provide professional and effective support to the Quality manager in Projects (QMiPs) within the regions portfolios. Reporting to the QMiP (Midlands) and interacting with the Quality team as well as all the project functional teams to support project delivery in a planned and effective manner.

What are my responsibilities?

  • Production of Quality Plans consistent with required organizational and customer policies, management systems and standards
  • Carry out Audits as per Audit Schedule
  • Management of Corrective Actions arising from Audit activity
  • Ensure Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) are recorded in the audit management database to capture non-conforming activities and/or product.
  • Conduct NCR root cause analysis investigations where possible providing assistance in the corrective and preventative actions.
  • Conduct Lessons Learnt as required to champion a culture of evaluation and improvement
  • Provision of advice and guidance to project teams on good quality practices.
  • Support supplier assurance where required
  • Supports the deployment of changes that improve the QMS where required
  • Supports the feedback of recommendations to improve the QMS

What do I need to qualify for this job?

  • Able to use computer tools including Microsoft Office Suite, databases and scheduling tools
  • Good communication/presentation skills to senior management
  • Root-Cause Analysis
  • Understanding Cost of Poor Quality and the potential quality methods used to reduce defects and eliminate inefficiency and waste
  • Field competence such as PTS, CSCS card as or other client specific training as applicable to the project
  • Previous experience in similar programs would be advantageous as would experience in the railway environment
  • Expert or advanced knowledge of BS EN ISO 9001 quality management systems and processes, including quality and milestone planning, quality assurance, quality reporting and audit management
  • A QMS Lead Auditor Certificate (or equivalent), with experience leading QMS audits of external organisations (esstential)
  • Must be client focused, with a passion to gather requirements and achieve internal and external client satisfaction
  • Advocates the principle of planning for quality and supporting the implementation of quality controls
  • Must have the energy and capability to use own initiative to manage and influence people to deliver required results
  • Must be an excellent team player and able to work with, coach, mentor and energise others in the team to implement quality methods and techniques
  • Must have a good analytical approach with drive and orientation to achieve results and required quality in execution
  • Relevant quality/engineering qualification or experience
  • Member of IRCA / CQI
