Samuel Knight are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor with previous rail experience, on behalf of a rail principal contractor, to be based in Basingstoke. They will consider applicants on either a permanent or contract basis.

Typical duties will be:

• Liaise with PM & Site Mangers to generate cost estimates using the Contract schedule of rates
• Submission of estimates to Network Rail via their “Monitor” system
• Daily tracking & management of live works orders including notification to NR of changes to estimates and/or pricing variations
• Submission and agreement of Final Accounts for each works order
• Management of the Estimates tracker detailing cost, value, margin per works order (submitted weekly to regional management)
• Effective use of the Contract schedule of rates to maximise revenue/margin
• Full final account cost reconciliation per works order to determine final margin v estimate variances
• Submission of monthly applications for payment to the client & subsequent agreement of certified values
• Build/Manage relationships with Network Rail
• Sub-contract administration including obtaining quotes, raising orders/variations, payment notices & final accounts
• Liaison with regional estimating department for Project Tenders
• Contract administration & commercial management of awarded projects (>£100k in value)
• Attendance at Internal Steering Groups (frequency TBC) to interface/discuss with other commercial staff on Frameworks to drive better efficiency
• Month end CVR reporting & attendance at CVR Meeting with PM
• Influence and drive the correct behaviours to support the company’s ambition for turnover growth in the region

Desirable skills/Background:

• Demonstrable experience/exposure to month end reporting
• Proficient user of all Microsoft Office software
• Previous use of COINS
• Main Contractor Background with Framework experience
• Prior experience in the Rail industry and/or worked with/for Network Rail
