About The Role

To fulfil this role, you will be performing the commercial function of negotiating and reviewing all contract documents received from suppliers and clients

You will be directly reporting to the Commercial Team Leader, working as an instrumental part of a small team, reporting on the status of projects for which they are responsible, as well as offering the team support.

The role will require you to review all received contract documentation, both pre and post tender stage. Following this you will advise the business on the acceptability of any proposed agreement, by projecting the commercial and legal interests of the company.

Negotiation is a major factor when reaching agreements on contract terms for each project. This is accomplished before seeking Director approval/sign off. Director approval is achieved via highlighting the requirements, risks, liabilities and obligations of each contract as well as reporting these to the Project Delivery Teams.

Career progression will arise from the growth within the Commercial team and the aligned continuous business expansion.

Company contract values likely to vary between £50K - £5m.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

  • Answer all contract and insurance related queries
  • Maintain and develop strong client relationships on each project.
  • Prepare documentation regarding any security requirements to issue for board approval.
  • On completion of terms negotiations, provide a report of which will be issued to the Project Delivery Teams, highlighting administration requirements and key problems
  • Provide commercial awareness training to the company when needed.
  • Ensure that all agreed payment terms allow for shortest possible payment cycles and regular invoicing.
  • Negotiate terms of which maximise fee for additional work.
  • Ensuring contractual obligations are covered by company policies by reviewing insurance requirements of all agreements
  • Understand the risks of each project and how these can be reduced through contract negotiation by liaising with the engineering disciplines

About You

Essential:

  • An understanding of commercial risk and an ability to identify which clauses need to be addressed.
  • Excellent contract awareness - will be required to negotiate various standard forms of contract and bespoke agreements
  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
  • Completed or working towards MRICS or alternative construction law related degree such as quantity surveying or commercial manager

Desired:

  • Ability to work across multiple sectors (predominantly rail industry)
  • Previous experience working with Design Consultancy Agreements.
