Principal Track Systems Engineer in London, London, United Kingdom
A well know British consultancy is looking for a Principal Track System Engineer to support several projects throughout the UK. You will provide specialist support to your clients advise them on Track systems interface and be a specialist within this field.
The successful Principal Track System engineer will be chartered, hold membership with a relevant professional engineering institution and be experience in track, civil and/or general infrastructure engineering. An understanding of current and emerging protocols applied to infrastructure is essential as is an understanding of relevant safety legislation. You will be analytically minded and will have the ability to communicate and influence others effectively at all levels.
The Principal Track System Engineer will provide technical expertise and leadership necessary to delivery to projects that form part of the Infrastructure team.
- Author new and revised Railway Group Standards, Rail Industry Standards and guidance notes in accordance with the Railway Group Standards Code and Standards Manual; take a leading role in the management of the National Technical Specification Notices (NTSNs), and in the development of International Standards, European Standards and British Standards through CEN and BSI.
- Peer review standards work produced by others and project reports.
- Support delivery of industry projects, including research covering new and existing infrastructure technologies.
- Provide specialist support within the infrastructure discipline
- Provide technical support to colleagues
- Influence an improved level of understanding of the role of requirements in supporting the achievement of technical and safe integration.
- Work in conjunction with the Standards Policy team to ensure that the solutions developed, or documents drafted, comply with the relevant decision-making criteria for the environment in which they are made.
- Report progress and provide technical direction and advice to Project Managers and the Professional Head of Infrastructure on individual projects.
- Deputise for the Professional Head of Infrastructure on an interim basis as required.
- Exercise your detailed knowledge across a wide range of the infrastructure subsystem and the operational context in which it exists, such that they understand in detail the impact that the infrastructure subsystem has on the railway system.
- Chartered Engineer status and membership of a relevant Professional Engineering Institution
- Experience in track, civil and/or general infrastructure engineering
- Understanding of the whole railway system and an ability to apply specialist knowledge to the system
- Analytical skills and the ability to apply them in the context of the railway system
- Ability to work collaboratively with industry to ensure effective fit for purpose standards
- Leadership and coaching skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills including:
- writing skills and ability to understand technical documents
