Rail Construction Manager
We are currently working with a major engineering contractor who are working within the Midland Metro Alliance on light rail multidisciplinary projects who are looking to expand their Birmingham office by recruiting a Rail Construction Manager. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience within the civils/track discipline and will have interfaced/experience with signalling and other core rail systems and disciplines.

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience within the civils/track discipline and will have interfaced/experience with signalling and other core rail systems and disciplines.
As Rail Systems Construction Manager your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Undertake engineering integration for works during the design and construction periods.
- Interpret design information for feedback to the design and construction teams
- Lead and direct Engineers during constructability reviews and onsite construction works.
- Identify key on site risks during design reviews and construction reviews.
- Undertake value engineering exercises during design and constructability reviews.
- Plan engineering teams workloads around the overall delivery programme for the MMA
- Ensure site engineers are competent in their roles and responsibilities and identify additional training requirements as necessary.
- Undertake on site safety inspections monthly.
- Provide input into design meetings and construction meetings on a periodic basis.
- Manage the implementation design of all rail and highways systems to construction.
- Support the MMA project delivery teams in the implementation of the systems design from design constructability assessments and site clearance through to handover.
- Manage materials ordering in line with the TC2 budget to deliver the tram systems infrastructure, highways systems infrastructure and ancillary structures.
- Manage a small team to deliver the full tram systems, signalling, power, low voltage, and earthing/bonding installations across the MMA schemes.
- Develop the ITPs and Check Sheets for all systems related installations and oversee all delivery testing and commissioning of the work packages.
- Provide any required design change evidence and technical queries to enable the project delivery and produce redlines accordingly
- Be responsible for the day-to-day management and delivery of the systems packages within the MMA projects in support of the delivery manager and relevant delivery teams
- Where required, produce any TQs, Change Requests, Material Approval Forms, etc. for the systems work packages.
- Produce Risk Assessments and Method Statements and brief operatives on working safely.
- As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
- Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
Job requirements:
- Qualified to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience in similar role.
- 4-5 Years experience in the rail/systems sector.
- Excellent technical ability and In-depth knowledge of Systems Integration including Tram Detection Systems, Fibre Networks, Traction Power Equipment and Substations, Street Lighting, Traffic Signals, Earthing & Bonding, Street Signage, Tram Shelter Structures and associated infrastructure.
- Good communication skills with the ability to communicate the project engineering requirements of the MMA programme.
- Ability to understand engineering dependencies across all disciplines involved in the MMA works.
- Experience in liaising with Construction and Delivery Managers on site ensuring the works are installed to the required construction tolerances.
- Ability to manage a team in the construction environment.
- Ability to raise technical issues on site back to the design teams providing possible solutions.
- Excellent understanding of the IDC process and ability to offer up solutions during the reviews.
- Holistic understanding of the overall project system and infrastructure to enable on-site clash mitigation and engineering decisions.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage workload ensuring successful project completion.
- Ability to produce reports detailing engineering progress on site highlighting progress on site against the overall project plan.
- Train operatives in systems installation.
- Ensure that installations are checked in accordance with MMA check sheets as well as local authority check sheets and industry specifications/standards.
