Head of Engineering - Rail in Derbyshire, East Midlands, United Kingdom
Head of Engineering – Rail – Derbyshire - £75-85,000 per annum
My client is looking for a Professional Head of Engineering who has excellent knowledge and experience working within an operating company (passenger or freight) to lead and manage their engineering function.
Key Responsibilities:
- To manage the existing fleet of locomotives and expand the fleet management role as necessary to reflect changes in the fleet. Define performance KPIs and manage the supply chain to ensure these are met.
- To manage the existing fleet of barrier and translator vehicles
- Lead and manage the third-party maintenance contract(s) and evaluate options for alternative maintainers, providing information and input to re-tendering processes
- To manage heavy maintenance and wheelset changes on a fleet, against a background of limited spares, limited supply chain and financial targets.
- Manage projects such as crash damage repair or major modification programmes.
- Carry out and assist with audits of safety critical suppliers
- To manage the requirements for TOPS, R2, PADS and other mainframe systems
- To manage the sourcing of spares, parts, tooling, drawings and the requirements of obsolescence management on an aging fleet of vehicles
- Carry out incident investigations and produce reports as necessary. Assess high risk defects and review, complete and raise NIRs when required.
- To manage the engineering change and approvals process to ensure all changes are completed in accordance with all aspects of relevant legislation.
- To provide technical and other support to the Control, Commercial, Operations, Safety and other teams as necessary
- Lead and manage the On Call and Out of Hours Support necessary to support a 24/7 nationwide operation
About you:
They’re seeking a Chartered Engineer who has experience managing a rail engineering department.
You must have experience in a senior engineering/management position within a passenger or freight operating company and therefore have extensive knowledge of the safety, legislative, commercial, geographical and operational requirements of a nation-wide rail operator.
