Senior Systems Engineer - Rail in Birmingham, West Midlands, United Kingdom
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Systems Engineer (Rail). Working on a number of major projects, this is a permanent position based in Birmingham to with a major consultancy. The role offers a salary of £45-55k and excellent benefits.
The role is a Senior Systems Engineer in Technical Assurance to work within a multidisciplinary team delivering a portfolio of exciting, varied rail projects as part of an established and expanding Rail Business and be responsible for the successful delivery of our design commissions for our major clients.
The role:
Ensuring the successful delivery of multidisciplinary rail projects and bids, you will be responsible for, and typical activities will include:
• To provide Technical Assurance expertise to projects
• To lead, train and support designers from other disciplines to successfully apply requirements Technical Assurance techniques to rail projects;
• Lead and assist in the production of documentation and deliverables in Technical Assurance and System Engineering Processes
• Lead in the development of technical assurance and systems engineering team skills and competencies
• Take budgetary and planning responsibility for Technical assurance activities which a lead role is undertaken
• Support the preparation of bids and tenders to help win work for the client by producing bid documentation
There is also scope for the role to take on responsibility for financial and people management within the team. This will depend on business need, there are also opportunities for short-term placements in other offices if business needs allow and, in time, overseas.
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
• A focus on the Technical Assurance during the design process.
• Proven ability and experience in being able to define the Technical Assurance process to non-engineers
• Ability to lead Technical Assurance in Configuration Management, Standards Management and Requirement Management activities
• Experience in writing procedures to support progressive Technical Assurance
Desirable Skills and Knowledge:
• Having ability and experience of other System Engineering disciplines like System Architecture, Detailed System Design, Requirements Management, System Modelling, Hazard Analysis, EMC and Dependability.
• Demonstrable PRAMS experience would be an advantage
• Previously taken responsibility for the delivery of the assurance team delivery to time and budget
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or numerate subject
• Ideally Chartered Engineer status or working towards CEng registration
