System Integration Engineer (Rail) in Swindon, Wiltshire, United Kingdom
The successful candidate will be part of the team responsible for the development and management of the system interface/integration for major project elements of the GWRM programme. These interface/integration activities cover the whole project lifecycle including design through to construction and operation. The System Integration Engineer will be required to lead on aspects of integration & interfacing including identification & capture, interface analysis, coordination, monitoring & verification through to final validation & closure and handover back to operational service. These tasks may include the production of specifications, the witnessing of verification and validation activities, and management of the real integration needs of the project stakeholders, including staff, customers and end users.
DUTIES
The successful candidate will be reporting to the Lead Integration Engineer(s) and have the following day to day duties:
Interface Management
- Lead the capture and identification of interface requirements within the GRWM functional, geographic and / or discipline area.
- Demonstrate detailed understanding of the interfaces and integration requirements within the relevant area to provide insight into the context and rationale of the integration outputs during any verification and validation activities
- Produce interface requirements specifications/architectures according to standard templates, using natural language to enable them to be simply, clearly, unambiguously, and concisely understood by all parties.
- Manage traceability information and track interfaces status throughout the project.
System Integration
- Decompose high-level sponsor integration requirements into there specific functional/geographic/project decomposed requirements, specifying the appropriate level of closure evidence detail suitable for each compliance stage.
- Support the development of System Architectures and System Integration Strategies and Plans
- Lead integration verification workstreams, analysing the required outputs and checking nay submitting verification evidence, ensuring that integration/interface closure statements are complete, consistent, concise, comprehensible, traceable, feasible, unambiguous, and verifiable, and that they conform to standards.
- Identify integration gaps and conflicts, and write interface and integration compliance reports.
General
- Establish and implement effective interface and integration best practices.
- Support the continuous development of the organization's interface and intragration engineering policies, procedures, and tools.
REQUIRED CRITERIA
Essential skills
- Understanding of system integration and interface management best practices in the identification, capture, monitoring, analysis and closure of interfaces.
- Ability to produce integration and interface specifications, specifying the verification & validation methodology, and any related management practices, this ability should be matched with an understanding of how to deliver on these requirements, though a familiarity with integration/ interface management best practice, personal user cases and any engineering books and resources.
- Analytical skills, to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details.
- Writing skills, to communicate information effectively to all customers, contractors, managers, and technical staff
- Organizational skills, to work with the vast array of information gathered during elicitation and analysis and to cope with rapidly changing information
- Interpersonal skills, to help negotiate priorities and to resolve conflicts among project stakeholders (such as customers, product management, and engineering)
- Minimum 5 years practical experience as a interface/integration engineer.
- Qualified with a relevant technical degree level
- Membership of professional body
- Sound understanding of the context in which projects have to be delivered
- Technically experienced in a diverse range of methods and techniques
- Understanding of core standards and their contextual application
Desirable skills
- Knowledge and use of proprietary architecture/requirement/interface management tools, such as DOORs, Enterprise Architect;
- Qualified in, or in process of obtaining qualifications in an appropriate engineering / technical discipline;
- Qualified to degree level or the ability to demonstrable employment history and knowledge in Interface Management, System Integration, Assurance or other System Engineering fields;
- Experience of major multidisciplinary projects with associated Rail and/or Urban locations;
- Track record of working with rail stakeholders such as Network Rail, London Underground and Utility companies.
