SPL Powerlines are a growing company in Overhead Line Electrification in Rail. SPL, part of the Powerlines Group, have work across the nation including GWEP, GWRM, and major Depot projects. In additional to this, the Powerlines Group have recently signed a Network Rail contract with Carillion for the extension on the Midland Mainline Electrification Project. The London to Corby route. About the role:

SPL Powerlines seeks an experienced Operations Director to join the team at our Doncaster Depot. Duties for the role include:

  • Co-ordination of all OLE projects undertaken by SPL Powerlines UK Limited & Plant Ltd and upkeep of the 6 month look ahead programme (in liaison with the Project Manager)
  • Monitor progress of all OLE projects to ensure that all commercial issues are addressed in line with the contract value / cost to completion (in liaison with the Project Manager)
  • Responsible for recruitment and training of all newly appointed staff and for monitoring of progress by way of site inspections and site placements in order to gain experience of site projects
  • Meet and communicate with clients representatives (Project Managers, Engineers, purchasers etc) to ensure projects are delivered to meet their requirements from tender to final handover (in liaison with Project Manager)
  • Ensure that up to date records of individual projects are maintained and are available for audit purpose (in liaison with Project manager)
  • Ensure all site construction staff are correctly trained and equipped to undertake their duties in a safe and effective manner
  • Undertake periodic site audits and safety inspections when SPL Powerlines UK Limited and Plant staff are engaged on site duties
  • Responsible for ensuring that all company safety documentation is in line with current industry and railway standards and practices
  • Ensure that construction managers, project engineers and site supervisors are equipped with and are implementing all relevant safety documentation.
  • Provide support and assistance with the preparation of tender documents
  • Ensure that construction managers, project engineers and site supervisors are equipped with and are implementing all relevant technical specifications, drawings and quality procedures.
  • Act as Contractors Engineers Manager – Construction(CDM) as required
  • Ensure that all staff understand the procedures set out by SPL Powerlines UK Limited and when updated are briefed as required.

About you:

  • Project management experience specifically within Operations and ideally within the OLE railway industry.
  • Experience within managing and delivering operations within the railway industry and OLE.
  • Ability to produce reports to include design and site progress, identification of critical resource elements, lost time delays and accident reporting.
  • Experience in managing projects, operations and staff.
  • Valid PTS and full UK driving licence
  • Computer literacy.
  • Willingness to travel and to learn and open minded for new technologies.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and support as required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Full driving licence and vehicle.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to stay calm and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to travel to different locations as and when required.
