Shift Operations Controller

Purpose of the Role
To learn all aspects of the daily running of the Operations Control Centre and assist Shift Operations Controllers.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Working as a Shift Operations Controller who has overall responsibility for the safety, operation and performance of the Colas Fleet on all shifts
- To ensure clear communication in the correct timescales to facilitate the safe and efficient operation performance of the Colas fleet
- To deal with the reporting and recording of any Incidents, accidents, Environmental occurrences in a professional and efficient manner informing the appropriate parties in the correct timescales in accordance with Company procedures
- To manage all aspects of Colas Rail Fleet including staff issues and work towards successful completion of production work on their shift
- To assist in ensuring that all work undertaken is recorded and logged in detail to an appropriate standard
- To assist in the management all Personnel on their shift in terms of all short term changes, sickness and exceedances
- Produce shift reports that include detailed maintenance and production reports to the requirements of the Business
- To assist in the management of Safety, Accidents, Incidents, Environmental issues, Production output and quality for all Rail Services equipment and operators
- To liaise with the maintenance department on all issues affecting machine performance on operational shifts
- To assist in the response to any SPAD, Incidents involving Man power or OTM when on duty or available to attend
- To receive information and react as an escalation centre only for accidents and incidents on Colas Project sites
- Assist in the management of the standards inside the control room to facilitate efficient and professional operation
- Ensure all machine transit moves are managed to eradicate any eventuality of subsequent costs for third party train delays
- To escalate as appropriate any issue which either through company procedure demands so or that falls outside of the Control Room Managers competency or authority
Person Specification
The job holder will;
- Be expected to work on both the Freight and OTM Control Desks and be able to work using their own initiative.
- Be dynamic, able to work without supervision and be able to use initiative.
- Be able to work as a team and be flexible with their time to accommodate late notice shift changes.
- Have a desire to progress within the Control Room environment working up the structured scale to become a fully qualified Shift Operations Controller.
