Job Summary
The Asset Advisory / Intelligent Infrastructure team sit in our national Asset Management group and lead our portfolio of rail asset management and research & development consultancy services. With an increasing global market in this field, a growing portfolio of high-profile research projects in the UK and accelerated client investment in new technologies, we are recruiting a Principal Rail Research / Asset Advisory Consultant to help deliver and grow this service offering for our key infrastructure clients.
The Principal Rail Research / Asset Advisory Consultant will
- Help develop the strategy, growth and development of our rail research and asset advisory consultancy offering, commercialising innovation when in line with business strategy, and partnering with academia / niche suppliers to develop solutions that address our transportation client’s future challenges.
- Act as a focal point for AECOM research & development and innovation in the rail end market.
- provide technical, commercial and management support in terms of work winning, opportunity tracking / development, bid production and development of business plans and strategy.
- provide mentoring and developing staff competencies and capability within the discipline
- actively participate in research project delivery and contributes to the growth of the discipline.
Job Duties include:
- Project and Quality Delivery:
- Oversee the technical quality of work carried out by the discipline and ensure that a consistent and acceptable level of quality is provided across the discipline as a whole.
- Carry out lessons learned reviews and instil a culture of continuous improvement. Ensure that an appropriate level of auditing of discipline outputs is carried out.
- Be actively involved in project delivery and ensure that sold time is achieved in line with business targets.
- Participate in Safety and Quality management meetings as appropriate and contribute to the direction of the discipline within the sector.
Staff Development:
- Ensure that all staff in the discipline are appropriately ranked in terms of skills and technical competence and maintain adequate records to monitor this. Ensure that all relevant licences are kept up to date and that staff are briefed on technical and technology developments in the disciplines. Provide guidance in further development of staff training.
- Be responsible and manage all direct reports including staff appraisals, training, annual pay and promotions and succession planning
- Ensure all discipline staff understands their responsibilities relating to health & safety, quality and sustainability, and that the policy statement and guiding principles are communicated and understood.
- Be actively involved in the identification of and subsequent development of Graduates and Apprentices within the discipline. Ensure that appropriate levels of mentorship and guidance are being provided towards achieving professional status.
- Bidding / Work Winning and Growth:
- Work with the Director (Asset Management Group), Rail Regional Directors, Asset Management Discipline leads and other end market asset management / innovation leads to develop a plan for growth for Asset Advisory / Research consultancy in the rail end market with a three year horizon based on market trends and pipeline opportunities.
- Proactively be involved in bids to ensure that the discipline input is properly and adequately represented and that interfaces with other disciplines and stakeholders are adequately identified and managed.
- Ensure robust technical bid preparation.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience in research consultancy, innovation commercialisation and / or other asset management consultancy services
- A champion of the discipline with excellent cross sector industry knowledge in the rail sector
- Ability to facilitate growth within the discipline and be recognised externally by Clients
- Working knowledge of relevant asset management standards desirable
- Ideally Chartered with a relevant professional body (e.g. IAM)
- PhD in relevant discipline or practical research background
- Nottingham base of operations
