Sales Engineer – Railway Sector

Mechan, the UK’s leading manufacturer of specialised railway workshop lifting and handling equipment and based in Sheffield, is seeking an effective and energetic sales engineer to join our dynamic sales team.

Responsibilities will include :-

• Establishing new and maintaining existing relationships with customers
• Travelling to visit clients, including overseas, as needed
• Participation in trade missions, exhibitions, conferences and other marketing events in the UK and overseas
• Managing and interpreting customer requirements and solving client problems
• Making technical presentations and demonstrating how a product will meet client needs
• Providing pre-sales technical assistance and product education
• Prepare detailed and accurate material, labour, equipment, subcontract estimates to meet customer proposals, providing consideration for general and special conditions. Utilise the appropriate company (Sage) and industry historical data for pricing estimates.
• Develop relationships with suppliers and subcontractors
• Recording and maintaining client contact data
• Provide regular reports on sales, business actions and forecasts

Skills Requirements

• Sales and estimating experience, preferably within the rail and/or manufacturing sector
• Knowledge of export markets will be an advantage
• Proven success in a similar role
• Self-motivated, able to work on own initiative proactively and manage own workload
• Qualification in mechanical engineering an advantage
• Multiple languages will be preferred, particularly French and Spanish to technical standard
