Maclean Moore are currently working alongside a leading global design consultancy. We are currently seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to work within a multidisciplinary team delivering a portfolio of exciting, varied rail projects as part of an established and expanding Rail Business.

You will be part of a team responsible for the successful delivery of our design commissions for our major clients including Network Rail, contractors (in a design and build context) and other agencies such as Train Operators, Councils, Passenger Transport Executives and academic institutions. Current multidisciplinary projects include Transpennine Route Upgrade – West of Leeds, major depot remodelling, Market Harborough Line Speed and Station Improvements Project GRIP 4-8 detailed design commissions for major Railway infrastructure contractors, and numerous GRIP Stage 1-4 commissions for Network Rail, TfGM and TfN. The position offers scope for personal skill development, especially in relation to increasing mutlidisclinary engineering management and leadership expertise. The focus will be on developing existing engineering management and design skills and experience of leading the integration of multidisciplinary designs, in a stimulating and challenging project environment, and so enhancing the organisation's overall track and rail capability.

Role:

We are looking for a passionate, commercially aware Senior Engineering Manager with excellent leadership and project management experience to be an integral part of our York Rail teamthat is highly motivated and with a desire to tackle interesting problems with the opportunity of finding innovative solutions.
Ensuring the successful leadership, management and delivery of technically excellent multidisciplinary rail projects and bids across our UK Rail portfolio, you will be responsible for, and typical activities will include:

  • Leading the successful design, integration and delivery of multidisciplinary projects with proven engineering management and leadership abilities.
  • Determining the engineering management requirements from our client brief and be able to make sound decisions and propose the right project approach.
  • Creating and maintaining a wide spectrum of effective, strategic and collaborative relationships, successfully delivering a complex and challenging workload, inspiring confidence and trust with our Clients.
  • Sharing knowledge, best practice and innovation across our business, providing guidance, training and feedback with other related disciplines and skills, locally and across the UK.
  • You will have the freedom to work independently, managing your own personal development utilising our in house and external training opportunities.
  • As we foster a strong development culture across our business, you will also be involved in some mentoring of more junior staff.

Relationships Reporting to our York Rail Team Leader and supported by our discipline Technical Head you will work with project teams of Railway and infrastructure engineers at bid and project stage. You will also develop relationships with our companies wider engineering community and our client’s engineering and project teams.


Essential Skills and Knowledge

  • Highly competent in the Engineering Management of multiple multidisciplinary rail Feasibility, Scheme and Detailed Design projects (including enhancements, remodelling, renewals, depots, stations, resignalling and electrification).
  • Prior experience acting as a Design & Build Engineering Manager, highly competent in requirements management, change management and delivery to programme.
  • Highly competent understanding of the safety process and the interfaces between the design and manufacturing and installation.
  • Experience of Contractors Engineering Manager (CEM) or equivalent.
  • Track record and a passion to lead, mentor, motivate and develop the skills of team members at all grades.
  • Experience in undertaking site surveys / site visits and reporting on asset condition.
  • Competent in the production of engineering management control tools and use of technical reporting processes to Senior Management.
  • Experience of digital, coding and data analytics techniques.
  • An appropriate HND, university degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Member of the ICE, IET or APM or similar and an Incorporated Engineer.
  • Chartered member of the ICE, IET or APM or similar would be an advantage.
