Primary Purpose of the Job:
Lead a design team in assuring compliance to a defined design process and ensuring that the design conforms to client requirements including quoted standards and specifications. The compliance to relevant statutory documentation is mandatory. Be responsible for the management of design production, design estimates, design programs and design work packages for bids, projects and services to contract requirements, standards, budget, and on-time delivery.
Undertake the role of Designer as identified in the CDM regulations, with particular attention to design risks. Ensure that safety risks are designed out or deemed as low as reasonably practicable.

Skills (underpinning Knowledge)
- Has a sound ability to define the use of design tools to manage complex designs.
- Has a working knowledge of the CDM regulations.
- Can define & manage configuration control processes.
- Working knowledge of project plans.
- Has a working knowledge of Engineering Safety Management.
- Able and confident to be the company technical representative at seminars and conferences.
Experience:
- A proven record of working in a Signalling Design engineering environment at senior level.
- Has a deep understanding of Railway operational, maintenance, installation and testing rules and procedures.
- Has a deep knowledge of a minimum of 1 interlocking type technology with proven record of checking/approving control tables (or equivalent) and RRI (or equivalent)/interlocking data/code.
- Able to advise on signalling principles, philosophies and system solutions.
- Has checking/approval level of competence of Scheme Plans.
- Proven record of drafting and approving Interface/Fringe specifications.
- Is compotent to author and approve technical documents.
- Is competent to generate and approve templates and engineering tools new to market.
- Knowledge of regulatory and legislative standards.
- Good working knowledge of Network rail/London Underground (or equivalent) standards
- Has a full understanding of the Engineering lifecycle and its processes.
- Has demonstrated design capabilities to at least a higher practitioner level for at least one key skill as captured and managed via the competency and capability management system.
- Has performed or is capable of performing one or more of the roles to the level identified within the role table at the relevant level of responsibility.
- Has supported, mentored and coached others in key skills development.
Essential Qualifications and Certification:
- HND/Engineering Degree or equivalent
- Have attained, or working towards Chartered engineer status or equivalent
- Have achieved or working towards Specialist Recognition status in a given discipline.
- Holds IRSE Licence <phone number removed> or equivalent
- Holds or working towards under mentorship Network Rail CRE/RDE or London Underground CAT S Approval Status or equivalent
- Member of the IRSE
