Signalling Design Engineer
Salary: €42k – €77k (commensurate with suitable qualifications and experience)
Job type: Full-time and Fixed Duration/Purpose
(Plus relocation or non-resident package as applicable)
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team producing safety-related signalling design deliverables at a principle and system level in accordance with appropriate railway standards, technical constraints, and safety legislation.
- Design the hardware and data requirements for signalling control systems
- Preparation of technical documents and specifications associated with signalling projects including scheme plans and control tables
- Leading small design teams and the production of design packages of safety-critical railway signalling systems to include modern electronic interlockings, train detection systems, train protection systems, computer-based train control systems, and various PLC based applications.
- Assist in the mentoring and development of junior engineering and technical staff
- Interact with other experts and peers to problem solve and identify technical conflicts
- Ensure technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of signalling system work.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor of Engineering Degree (level 8) or equivalent in electrical/electronic engineering or relevant technical discipline
- At least 5 years’ experience in an engineering role, ideally in a railway signalling design environment
- Solid understanding of railway signalling equipment & systems including signals, points, train detection systems, train protection systems, level crossings, PLC based applications. Relay, SSI or other interlocking types.
- Knowledge of interlocking principles
- Able to produce electrical and electronic circuits, data sheets and specifications
- Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
- Excellent planning, scheduling & organisational skills
- Ability to build and maintain constructive relationships with customers and colleagues
- Working knowledge of computer-aided drafting software (Autocad, Micro-station) is desired.
