Purpose of the Role

To define and satisfactorily undertake the management, control and completion of testing activities in a timely and compliant manner to ensure the system meets the requirements and is fit for entry into service.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability

  • The planning and management of testing on the projects for which they are appointed in accordance with NR/L2/SIG/30014, relevant company standards and IRSE requirements
  • Liaison with the Project Manager, designers, installation, construction and third parties involved on a scheme. Manage interfaces to ensure compliant and timely handovers from other functions.
  • Reviewing & approving testing staff used on the project in accordance with NR/L2/SIG/30014/B410.
  • Ensuring that all testing staff used on a project holds a valid NR certificate of competence or a recognised company CofC endorsed for use by Colas Rail.
  • Ensuring that staff are only used for activities covered by their CofC.
  • Ensuring that all staff receive a briefing on the testing activities they are to carry in a timely manner and in accord with NR/L2/SIG/30014
  • Ensuring all test equipment used on a project is correctly calibrated & controlled and that the detail of individual test equipment is recorded on the briefing sheet.
  • Production, review and amendment of testing documentation
  • Ensuring that all equipment to be tested is done so in accord with the approved Testing Specification.
  • Undertaking audits on testing records and surveillance of testing activities in accordance with NR/L2/SIG/30014 and relevant company standards.
  • Ensuring that the obligation to report any occurrences of undue pressure or coercion within the testing process is understood and exercised by the testing staff.
  • Reviewing the timescale and resource plans for work under their control.

Person Specification

  • The minimum requirement necessary upon entry to the role is an HNC, HND, NVQ or equivalent. The applicant must hold an IRSE licence in the following categories: 1.3.170 or 1.3.180 and 1.3.190 .
  • The minimum Signalling work experience necessary to perform the job is typically 5-7 years testing experience preceded by suitable design, construction or maintenance experience or evidence of substantial experience in a similar role.
  • The role requires that the following certificates and/or licences be held or working towards: PTS AC, DCCR, ICI, COSS/SWL, Driving Licence, Emergency Life Support, Fire Awareness, Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling, IOSH Working/Managing Safely, SPWEE, OLEC 1. Various Modular Testing Certification including MOD 1 and or Mod2, 3B, 3C, 4 and 5.
