Project Information
The Joint Venture will build the Central Section of the Thames Tideway Tunnel, London's new sewer infrastructure, contract C410.
The part to be built by the JV, with a diameter of 7.2 metres, is divided into two sections. Both commence at Kirtling Street site: the first, 5 kilometres in length, runs east to Carnwath Road. The second, 7.7 kilometres long, runs west to Chambers Wharf. The contract also includes building 8 shafts between 42 and 62 metres deep, 6 connecting tunnels, sewers, interceptors and valve rooms. The Blackfriars Bridge Foreshore works intercept flow from the Fleet Main Sewer Combines Sewage Outfall CSO located in the Victoria Embankment river wall on the foreshore of the tidal Thames. The Fleet Main Sewer CSO discharges to the tidal Thames under Blackfriars Road Bridge.
The works includes a connection to the northern Low Level Sewer No. 1, in order to control flows to other CSOs along the embankment. This sewer is incorporated within the Victoria Embankment river wall to the west of Blackfriars Road Bridge.
Flows are diverted, via connection culverts and an on-line drop shaft within a new foreshore structure, to the main tunnel. The foreshore structure accommodates air management facilities and a new CSO.
The works includes all activities required to complete design, construction, commissioning and hand-over of civil works.
